Default Possible gear issue

So my son and his friends decided to see how much fun it would be to do wheelies in the golf cart by going in reverse and then slamming it into forward. Yes, I know. Can you imagine that it started to make this funny noise like gears might be slipping when you drive it. So my neighbor and I took the rear end apart looking for the problem. As some of you know from my other posts, I am not that mechanically savvy yet, but will try anything. So here is my question. It seems that the teeth on the top of the differential that the motor goes onto are now worn. We cleaned everything up and it sounds a lot better, but I am still nervous. What exactly is that part and how hard is to remove and replace. I completely forgot to snap a pic when we had it all apart. I hope I have given enough information to start the diagnosis, but will try and offer more if anyone can help.

Sounds like you are asking about the input shaft. Find an exploded view of the Dana differential to confirm.
Unless you have upgraded the rear hubs the problem may be there. The stock hubs will not handle this type of abuse.

Too nice of a set up to let the kids play on it.

Thanks Scotty. I did not upgrade the rear hubs, I will need to check that too. I did see that diagram and now it does look like the input shaft you mentioned. By abuse, do you mean what the boys were doing and/or that I should replace them anyway if I am using it for off roading and for hunting?

Yeah, my son has been very good with the cart, should not have let him use it when his friends came over. Needless to say, this will not be allowed again.

A little off topic but my son did something similar to my 71 ranchero when he was 16, I didnt show how mad I was when I towed to the shop. The front end parts came to almost $200.00, but I was nice and didn't charge him labor

I am not even a domestic car guy, but you know, you cant beat a GM 350 for availability of performance parts. Mounts, pressurized intake stuff, ignition. Its mind boggling the amount of parts you can get for a GM small block. Not to hijack, tho, I am waiting on my carts body to be made and I'm bored.......

I'll run a 351 Cleveland stock against any GM 350. Dunno about the Windsors, but a Cleveland will bark the tires in all 4 gears. Gotta admit, it's mo' engine than a Ranchero really needs, even with two passengers.

Dual ignition points, 4 on the floor...
