Default 2002 TXT Rebuild Advise

Good afteroon all,

Been a long time stalker and now looking for your expert advise. I have a 2002 ez go TXT 36v with series motor. Currently lifted with bigger tires and folding bench seat/platform on back. To make a long story short, my son and his friends broke it while back, no sure if it was the controller, solenoide or what but thats not the issue. I completly tore it down to the frame and fixed rusted out spots and underbody coated the whole thing. Body has been completly redone and painted. Now I am at the point to purchase the guts to make it acutally work again. I live in rural florida and dont have mountains but have hill and offroading. I am looking for a little more speed and torgue with the rebuild without swapping motors. It will be used to pull stuff around the yard and mild off road work from time to time. I am looking for suggestions on, f/r switch, solinoid, controller and new wire size. I believe that is all the guts but if I am missing something pleae let me know and I loof forward to all suggestions. thanks in adavance.

Joe

Hello Joe.....well you can see in my sig....my cart, and other than the year (mines a 2006) I did exactly what you are wanting to do. the only thing extra I did was to get a speed motor. NOW, seeing as how your cart is a series drive, regardless of the upgrade, if you leave it at 36v, you will not gain any speed. HOWEVER, if you jump to 48V you will gain roughly 30% more speed AND torque.....to make the jump to 48V you will need to buy a new 48v charger though...and a 48v battery pack. Which can be done in the same configuration using 6-8v batteries.

SO with that.....if I were in your shoes, I would start by getting EVERYTHING from ScottyB at CartsUnlimited.net, here us a link directly to the kits he has put together, seeing as you need all the parts, its one stop shopping and save a few bucks as well. not only is he a stand up guy with the most outstanding customer service you will ever see, he is a site sponsor as well.

Here is my suggestion:
Its his PKG #485 on the page above.
CONTROLER: SPM 48500
HD F&R SWITCH
SD 400/1000A Solenoid
2 ga cable set

and for batteries, buy the highest AH rated batteries you can.....such as the Crown or Trogens, this will give you a longer run time.

oh I forgot........Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

I'm in your same area code. I did the same thing with my card and put 25 inch tires on it however I got a torque motor. talk to Scotty be get a 500 amp controller kit with all the goodies and a battery charger for 48 volts. you will not be disappointed even with the stock motor

thanks for the prompt replies, both of you advised about upgrading motors. what type or where did you get them. Just to confirm I can use my 36v series motor and hook it up to 48v. I am hoping scotty chimes in with what I need to order from him.

That's not exactly true. Larger tires or a gear swap without increasing voltage will still increase speed.

you can use the stock motor if you go to 48 volts. I still have decent batteries so I got a torque motor at 36 volts for now. a friend of mine just went to 48 volts on the stock 36 volt motor. now we are running neck and neck. what I am saying is you are going to need to up the voltage on the stock motor to get a improvement on the torque and speed

Fish.....YES you can use a stock 36V motor at 48V....lots of people do it. what you are wanting to do with your cart....the stock motor will work just fine.

I on the other hand.....I wanted a lot more speed.

he won't gain anything over what he already has.....seeing has his cart is already lifted and has larger tires on it.....so whatever speed it has now.....won't increase. and what he wants to do with his cart.....the last thing he should do is a gear change.
