Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
Is there anyone out there using these batteries in your carts now? I am pricing a new set of batteries for my 48V upgrade, and I am trying to find out if they are worth the extra money. The amp hour rating of 204 is higher than anything else that I have been able to find.

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
IIRC: azTony put in a set two or three months ago.
Send him a PM, he might have some info for you. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/members/aztony/ On the other hand, if you post the Brand, Model and Prices (include tax and delivery costs on all, or on none, so we can compare apples to apples) on the batteries you are considering, I can calculate the annual cost based on equal usage. |

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
Thanks Johnnie! I am working on that list now. I will post something tomorrow. I am getting pretty frustrated with the lack of availability locally. Most places that I have called only carry one or two brands and the model selection within brands is even worse. The other issue that I am running in to, is the total lack of knowledge of the sales people that I have talked to! Most have not even been familiar with the options in the product line that they carry.
I am not opposed to spending a little mor money, if I knew that I would get a reasonable gain in either range and or power. Anyway, I appreciate the offer, and I will post a list of what is available locally. |

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
Power and performance will be about the same for any 48V pack.
The range at 48V (or any other voltage as long as the pack voltage is the same for the battery packs being compared) depends on AH. The higher the AH the longer the run-time and the greater the range. How long a battery pack lasts before it needs to be replaced, also depends on AH, assuming the driving and maintenance conditions remain the same. With other factors equal, how long a battery lasts depends on the battery's average SoC over its lifetime. If your daily trips in the cart draws 68AH from the battery pack and you recharge each night, the average SoC for a T-875 pack would be about 60.0%, for a T-890 pack it would be about 64.2% and for a Ranger 160 pack it would be about 66.7%. Of the three, the Ranger 160 would last the longest, but would the longer lifespan offset the higher cost? |

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
Well to defend your supplier the Ranger batteries just recently came out. They are more then "a little more money" also. They are a lot more money.
My last 48v conversion I used Trojan T-890's and was quite impressed. Even more so once I broke them in as new batteries only have 75% of their stated capacity. T-890's will be significantly cheaper then the Ranger 160's too. The 890's are still much more then the T-875 most people use. My local dealer doesn't carry 890's (nor Rangers) because most buyers want a more "budget friendly" Trojan battery. I asked him to order the 890's and he did of course. I remember waiting a few weeks. |

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
I am running in to the same problem in my area. All of the dealers that I have spoken to are limited in what they stock. Most keep the 875 in an 8 volt battery. I had one place quote me on the 890 and Ranger 160s. He said that he would order them in and sell the 890 for 149.00 and the ranger for 159.00. At 10.00 per battery more, I may just go with the Ranger 160. That is only 60.00 over the life of the pack. That should be worth it for the extra amp hours!

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
only have 6 cycles on the rangers but they charge to 64 volts before the charger shuts off.

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
Well I would forget about the 8 volt batteries entirely and go the 6 volt route
I have 8 - 6 volt batts in my 48 volt cart and love it , I can blow any 8 volt batt set -up on run -time , have 260 amp/hr batts -Crowns Cheers! , although they are pricey |

I have a set of 8 Deka GC45 batteries, so far they have been great, coupled with DPI charger.

Re: Trojan Ranger 160 batteries
I'm pretty much set on the 6-8volt set up, because I have already gotten all of my new cables and everything else needed. My original plan was to stay with the 36Volt set up, until I needed to replace my batteries. When I got ready to start reassembling it all, I noticed that 4 of my batteries were leaking acid from the top edge where it meets the case. So now that I have to replace the batteries, I am just going to go with the 8 volt.
I may move to a 8-6Volt set the next time that I replace batteries. Hopefully, that will be at least 4 or 5 years! |
