Battery swap = tray swap?

I am about to swap out my batteries and the cart is a 2000. It looks decent, but I am really afraid if I clean very much, that I will clean all the metal off. Should I just cut it and rebuild a tray using 1 - 1.5 inch angle iron?

I don't really want my new investment falling out of the bottom of the cart because i cleaned off all of the metal.

You have to clean the rack and then decide .... or just buy new.

When I did battery swaps I used an air chisel (and goggles!) to remove corrosion and rust. then neutralized & washed the rack and repainted it before installing new batteries. Every owner appreciated the effort and we only replaced a few racks but, then we are a dry climate.

Unless you have a big battery overflow problem or severe rust situation your rack should be fine.

I think if you are afraid to clean it because it might not be strong enough after you remove the rust, than it's probably not strong enough with the rust on it

x2 on that, but you should take a look at it. Mine was rusty, but still very supportive.

That's what I was thinking. I would go ahead and clean the rack well, then if it seems weak, replace it...

Thanks for the thoughts here. Best i can tell it is still in pretty good shape, does have some rust, but that is nothing new. I can not really see anything with the batteries in there, but they are being removed this weekend so i will see what i am dealing with. It will get a good cleaning, but just curious if some of you thought it was better to jsut replace them, but sounds like a good cleaning and a good rust prevention encapsulation is a good start.

The racks are kind of a bear to change out .... the two bolts under the floor mat almost always rust out before the rack does...

Any tips on attacking this? I know mine is bad and we have a pretty rough gravel approach to our driveway. I just bought a Lincoln MIG welder, not sure if I should replace the whole thing our just weld good steel onto what's there now.
