Default 97 E-Z-GO Series Drive Cheap speed boost

First time post, long time reader of this forum. I've purchased my first Golf Cart. Seems like I got a pretty good deal.... 97 EZGO Series cart. According to the guy the Trojan T-105 batteries were newly installed about 3 months ago. He pulled speakers off of the cart that I wasn't going to pay extra for. It runs and drives ok. They said that it was lowered a little and other than stock tires and wheels were installed. However the steering is really loose. Not sure what to do on that end. I feel like I've got a good start with the new batteries but upon getting on it and taking off it has little to no pick up. Last I drove one it was a 48v CC. And it seemed to take off like a rocket and had some speed to it! I guess I'm not comparing apples to apples. My first step is going upgrade the cables and fully charge the cart and see what happens... Any suggestions from what you can tell I have in the cart currently would be much appreciated or any personal experience in what you've discovered to work from the most economical stand point. One last tidbit I plan on adding a rear seat for more riders. This may also determine which route I should go. Thanks for your time and help!

P.S. Paid $500 :)

Welcome to the forum Bwhitsonjr,

I just picked up my 1st EZ GO and I'm having the same issue with the same cart.
1.Are your batteries charged?
2. What is the condition of your F&R?

Yes I would replace all your batt cables. I'm replacing my F&R and also cables so I hope it wil improve the performace of my cart. Just FYI my F&R got so hot i burned my finger after only driving 400 feet. After that I took the wires cutters to the cables and gutted them all out!

Let us know how it goes.

bwhitsonjr, although the series carts are the heart of a lot of fleets, as they tend to be a little more HD.....however, in the title it states "cheep speed boost" SORRY, but there truly is no such thing. the fact that you got it cheep, and its all there and its in pretty good shape, thats a big plus.....a nice place to start.

before you start buying parts.....take the time to really think about what you want out of it after its all done, and how it will perform. how fast do you want it to go? seeing where you are....its fairly flat....so you could for go some torque to get more speed.....like I mentioned before, just depends on what you intend to do with it.

You have some things to think about....seeing as how you have nearly new batteries, you only have a few choices to increase speed (aftermarket motor, bigger tires, gear change).....and to do it right and make it last, will likely require a total upgrade of the drive system. I know, its most likely not the news you would want to hear.

currently.....your cart will only go about 14 mph....at best. as you can see in my sig....I too have a series cart.....and its drive system has been totally redone and upgraded....I wanted to go a lot faster.....currently it tops out at 27 mph.

oh and btw.....CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Thanks for the welcome! Grabbed something from the fridge.... Can't seem to figure out how to close??? What I really want to do is ride the fam and go top speed. Maybe not 27 mph. But at least get my max stock speed without an issue. While carrying 4 adults and 2 children....

Stock series system is already at max speed (if batts and stuff are good), motor swap in your future.

For a series system.....to make it go faster, the choices are, or a combo of the following:
1. gear change
2. upgrade to 48V
3. larger tires
4. aftermarket motor

Just depends on how fast you wanna go......

What's required in a gear change? If I decide to go to 48v what HAS to be upgraded with that?
