Default rust fix

iam looking to buy my first cart(electric ezgo)
I went to look at a group of ten 2009 pds carts.
my choice for 1700.00. I looked under all the carts and saw a good bit of rusting. Not real bad, but not real light rust either. Is this a common problem on these carts? Me and these carts are from dallas area,so no salt water or things like that. My question is.............should I not buy one of these carts? Is there a way to stop this rust that will not just be a temporary fix? And lastly...........is that an ok deal for this cart considering the rust and that it will probably need new batteries soon. thanks

Rust is pretty common with all those batteries being charged all the time. Sometimes they get overfilled and sometimes they get overcharged. Either way even just the natural gassing process during charging creates a prime environment for rust. Flaking off any heavy rust and coating it with a phosphoric acid compound like Jasco Metal Prep will neutralize the rust and allow you to paint over it. A good etching primer or POR 15 will do the same thing. The important part is that the rust be chemically neutralized before you paint over it. Rust to some degree is par for the course. (pun intended)

I am 2,000 miles from Dallas so I can't help you with the market price, but I will say that those numbers sound about right for the East Coast as long as the body is in good shape. Usually for that price we get a sound cart that has batteries that may make it one to two years before they need replaced. If you have your choice of carts, I would check battery dates as part of my elimination process.
