gear oil
I plan to get rid of the old oil (if there is any) in the rear end this weekend, I think this may be part of my lack of smooth when pushing the cart and may be part of my speed loss not adding to what Johnnie says it should be. Also going to work on the brakes.
But what do you guys run in the rears of the carts? Is there much of a difference? Royal Purple/generic? Also, how much? Should there be any lube on the motor and spline top side of things, or jsut in the differential? Thanks |

Re: gear oil
The owners manual on my 2000 TXT specifies 10oz of 30wt motor oil. You will probably get lots of opinions on this cause it's kinda like what state has the best BBQ. Lot of people like synthetics and/or gear oil. 80-90 gear oil has about the same viscosity as 30wt motor oil. You don't want to get too thick as the unit is designed for the oil to splash up to the upper gears.
If you take the motor off, put anti seize on the splines. |

Re: gear oil
A better lube for the splines is brake caliper lube.It prevents corrosion and "Fretting" which is spline wear from the loading/unloading pressure against the teeth during operation. It saved us alot on pto-drives for hydraulic pumps,it works.
