Ez-go hot!
EZ-GO TXT, new batterys. Wife was driving yesterday and said quit moving and could smell a burning coming from battery compartment. After sitting and cooling down seemed to run fine the next few days. Any ideas. What to look for?

Re: Ez-go hot!
The controller is going into thermal shutdown. More amperage is being drawn than it can safely pass. Possibly due to larger tires, bigger loads, or extended use.
Look for the problem to occur more often until it fails. You will need to upgrade the system with bigger controller, solenoid, cables and HD F&R to rectify the problem. |

Re: Ez-go hot!
Had same issue with mine and it was a loose battery cable.

Re: Ez-go hot!
Check the obvious stuff first, battery terminals, connections at controller, connections at solenoid, connections at motor.

Re: Ez-go hot!
happened to ours too, but our cables on the batteries were "too tight" I had no idea that could happen. its probably just a wire connection to the battery. Get them all snug and you should be okay.

Re: Ez-go hot!
Bad connections are the cause of excess HEAT. Run it briefly and check for hot connections. (Carefully because they can be REALLY HOT)

Re: Ez-go hot!
We were having this problem and at first the local dealer told us that the connection was too lose (we had a whole terminal melt) so we made sure they were real tight and the terminal got hot and melted again. They later told us that the bolt could also be too tight. They need to be tight enough to have a snug fit, but not over tightened like we were doing.

Re: Ez-go hot!
All battery manufacturers publish their specific torque requirements. Bear in mind, that they are usually listed as inch-pounds, not foot-pounds.

Re: Ez-go hot!
In this situation, i would be suspecting a bad cable. Weak crimp at the end where it bolts to battery terminal? What type of cable ends do you have? Post a pic of the problem terminal, or all batteries? Some cheaper cable designs are prone to bad connections inside the cable itself. I feel you have to really go crazy to ruin a battery terminal with over-torquing if you are just using a regular wrench (6-8" long wrench). I like to use a short box-end "combo wrench" (1/2 on one side, 9/16 on other side), it is short enough that over torque is somewhat unlikely, and short enough that contacting another battery terminal is also unlikely. They are usually angled in a good direction to avoid the "Trojan multi-vent knuckle destroyer" too. Some of you know what that is .
