Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
I just got my 8.4 hp motor in for my 01 pds cart. I only have the one white wire out of back of motor to controller. The new motor has three wires out of the end. Did they send the right motor? What do I do with the other two wires? Thanks for the help!

Re: Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
I ran across this once. Your old white wire actually has three wires inside of it. On the end where it plugs into the controller you will see three prongs. I don't remember the colors, but I rember that two wires match colors so hook them together and then the two left over go together. Hope this helps
Addition... Oh yeah you may find that your gonna need some more amps for that new motor to really show off. In that case you will probably going to an alltrax which doesn't use that speed sensor wire at all, so you may not need it. Last edited by cartworldinc; 10-10-2008 at 06:46 PM.. Reason: addition |

Re: Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
Thank you! I will check into that. I have a 400 amp alltrax cont. the white wire from end of stock motor goes to it and I believe plugs into a single spot ontop of controller. I have ran it with the stock motor for a while with this controller and just wanted a little more power for hills. It has a lift, etc. The motor is an Admiral built for Red Hawk. I have e-mailed red hawk and also the seller. I would love to install this motor this weekend as it is a long one. but without for sure wireing inst. I dont know. Thank you for all your help!

Re: Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
Well..... wiring should not be an issue. The Alltrax DCX 400 which is the unit used for PDS/DCS doesn't use the speed sensor wire. The DCS cart plugs into this controller, but the PDS uses an adapter Harness and should look like this... I'll try an attach a picture. The next question....Does this new motor require an alternate field map... The DCX 400 is a programmable controller and has to be programmed to work on the correct motor. I have quite a few field maps and the pds/dcs programs as well as the software you might need but i'm not familiar with that particular motor or its field requirements. This would best be answered by the motor manf. or by alltrax. Im sure if you sent alltrax an email they would probably know and they are very good at helping customers. Chances are you can hook up everything and it will work just fine. Run the cart through the weekend and see how she acts. But on tuesday I would check on those field maps to make sure your not overstressing either of the units. Be glad to help if I can. I can email you the software if you need it.

Re: Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
The speed sensor is unpluged. The white wire that comes out of the end of stock motor pluggs into the DCS next to a black wire. This new motor has three wires blk, grn, and red out of the end of motor. Beyond that it has the normal battery terminals. the adaptor is there and plugged in to the controller..as far as the field map..im not sure, i will e-mail alltrax about that. Thank you all for your time! The cart is running the stock motor now. I thought i would just have to connect this new motor the same way untill i saw the three wires. And none of them White. I checked and it is just a solid white wire, so its not the speed sensor.

Re: Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
The wire that comes out of the end of the motor is the speed sensor. It should not be plugged in anywhere... The three wires coming out of the end of your new motor are speed sensor wires and will not be used in conjunction with a DCX 400 controller. They would only be used if you were using the factory controller. If you would like to send me a picture of your controller I could see what you have going on.

Re: Changing Ezgo pds motor 1wire to 3 wire???
Ok i will post pictures tomorrow. Kenfield golf cars hooked up the controller when I bought it. There is a 3 wire connector from factory harness that is not connected. They have the single (speed sensor) wire run to the top of controller. I did e-mail alltrax about this motor and about the field map. I dont expect to hear from them until next week though. It has been running this way, but they did not put the diode or resistor on the new heavy duty silinoid. I did that myself. I will take pictures in the morning and post them. Thank you Cartworldinc for all your help!
