The Potentiometer read 5ohms to 5400 ohms. We still need to test it early in the morning when the cart does not go. The cart will start running if the pedal is barely pushed down to barely move it. Early in the morning you can be creeping along in the cart and it will lunge to a stop. Pushing the petal again will only work when barely pushed and and sometimes the cart will stop quickly when the pedal is pushed harder. After it warms up the cart works normal. We now have the operation and service manual and will try a few more tests.

We tested the potentiometer on the cart and it showed 4.5 to 5400 ohms and removed the potentiometer assemble and it tested 1.6 ohms to 5200 on a good meter. There a gradual increasing of ohms as the pot was turned, with no noticeable jumps. The micro switch was always activated before it reached 50 ohms. Does the pot need to read zero ohms? The problem is we still need to test it when it is not working. One morning we put a blow dryer on the pot and it had no effect. In the morning when the cart starts working when you can slowly press the pedal and it will move slowly, if you press it too fast the cart will stall very suddenly and continue to go slowly if you start slowly again. You can gradually bring it up to speed and it will work all day. We have taken the F-N-R lever apart and cleaned it and tested the solenoid

Tested between the B+ & M- terminals on the solid state speed controller and got .3 volts that did not change when the pedal was pushed. This was in the morning when the cart was not working. The pot was changing when the pedal was pushed. The cart was jacked up. Does this mean the controller is going out?

Based on the readings from the Pot box I would say that it is not your problem. I would focus on the controller and refer to the stickey on the main Ezgo Electric page that references the Curtis trouble shooting.

Thanks for the help. I also found the Curtis site that has some controller troubleshooting guides at the 1st link below. Hope that link works. Looks like I have the Curtis 1205-104 or Curtis 1205 which should be the same as EZGO #22717-G1 controller. I've seen the prices on the web for $1000 to $550 each for the 22717-G1. The Alltrax Controllers at are listed around the web at lower prices, though. I'm looking for a rebuilt or finding a compatable Alltrax now. I think I'll get the local cart mechanic to take a look at the EZGO before before I spend the money.

If you poke around on eBay you can find the curtis controllers for reasonable prices from time to time, but also you can find new, used, and refurbished alltrax controllers for really good prices too. I almost bought an alltrax ezgo controller the other day for $175 with free shipping, directly from an authorized alltrax dealer (through eBay though), but needed it for a CC and wasn't sure it would work properly. It was a "used" unit, but with a warranty and repacked with new fuse, etc..

I would definitely have someone look it over, or do some tests on it yourself, before spending the money on a new controller though. They are too expensive to replace if they aren't even broke. :)

I would go with the Altrax as it allows for up to 48 volts should you ever want to upgrade motor, charger, etc. The company on eBay that sells the used Altrax units is very reputable and would not hesitate buying from them. I have a Curtis 1205-104 (400amp) that I keep as a back up and have used it several times. Again the Altrax is the way to go.

Fixed the not starting in the morning problem by replacing the Curtis Controller with an Alltra NPX48844 0-5K controller. It was not the motor brushes. We replaced the original 16 year old brushes and they still had 1/2" of wear left in them. We use the cart every day. We also changed the pot, varistor, and cleaned the FNR switch, but that was not the problem. Something in the controller had gone out. Thanks for the help!
