Welcome to BGW! (Oops - Noticed you been here for a while, just hadn't posted.)
Does the cart slow down when it beeps? The 2-3 beep code is Thermal cutback in Daignostic mode, but I'm not sure if they will sound when in regular run mode. Are you running tires taller than 18"? If so, the controller will be getting hotter than normal. ------------ Oops - Noticed you been here for a while, just hadn't posted. Last edited by JohnnieB; 03-26-2014 at 08:19 AM.. Re: my cart beeps 2 then 3 times while driving
Basically, a golf cart is designed to carry two golfers and their clubs over groomed trails in intermittent sprints of about 250 yards each, with several minutes rest between sprints, for at least 18 holes on a single battery charge. To do much more than that, the drive system has to be upgraded.
Installing 22" tires changed the final drive ratio by 20%, so everything in the drive system is working harder and generating more heat. If they are the low pressure off-road type tires, they take even more torque to turn and generate even more heat. I suspect you have little desire to revert back to stock height tires, so you need to upgrade the drive system to handle the taller tires. Either pro-actively before the stock controller fails, or re-actively when it does. The high current cables (all ten of them) need to be at least 4Ga. The solenoid needs to be at least 200A (stock is 85A). The controller needs to be at least 400A. If you have a back seat, a 500A may be needed. However, before doing any upgrades, it is best to figure out what you want to do with the cart and then build towards that goal. Scotty at Carts Unlimited has a pretty decent overview of the things to take into consideration. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html My first upgrade was 2Ga cables, then it was a Alltrax DCX400 controller with a 400A solenoid. Next was a 42V battery pack and later I went to a bigger motor and controller. |
