Default is 48v really worth it?

So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need new batteries in the near future. I'm trying to figure out if I'm gonna just go back with 6-6v batteries or should I take the leap and go 6-8v. I know if I do 48v then I've gotta replace my controller and I don't think that's in the budget. Is it really worth it to go 48v? And before you say....i can't do 36v and go back and add 2 more 6v batteries later. There's just not enough room on my cart.

well you really don't want to add 2 more later , that will just hurt the original 6 . to me its worth making the jump to 48 volts. but you know your cash flow.

Mickey - I am in the middle of my conversion, picking up my batteries Fri / Sat. My controller is able to go from 36 to 48 volt so that was a big plus. I searched this site, spent a lot of time doing it, and found almost every review very positive. I will happy to report results this weekend. 30 percent increase in speed and torque is what to expect.

If you like the cost comparason to 33% more torque and speed, then yes, its worth it.

Yeah 30% more is well worth it. I just didn't want to buy 6 new 6v batteries and regret going 48v down the road. I want to just buy batteries once. Its just the extra having to buy a controller in addition to the 6 8volt batteries which cost more than the 6volt ones. I was hoping to hold off longer on buying batteries and buy a controller first but these batteries don't seem to have the run time I'm needing.

I have been helping people upgrade 36v carts to 48v for years. I have never heard anybody say they regret the upgrade yet.

Mikey --- you will have to upgrade your controller as you said. Also you will need a new solenoid, resistor, and diode. Then a 48 volt charger will be needed. That being said, the controller alone will give you more torque so with the jump to 48v, you might be surprised at the results. I already had all the upgrades when I upgraded to 48v so it wasn't that bad for me cost wise. I will say other than the EMP motor I put in, the 48v upgrade was the most productive I did. The torque greatly improved and the cart gained a solid 6 MPH. I would not hesitate doing the upgrade again. The cost factor does suck--that I fully understand

ScottyB has great prices on controller/solenoid packages & also on DPI chargers. That's where I got my stuff, to the tune of $900+!!! Was it worth it?.................
HECK yeah!

I'm very happy we went 42V - the torque we need for the terrain we use it on, more than enough speed (I have it limited to 50%, probably will bump it up to 75%) and lots of range.

It's not a cheap conversion - not only controller, but also a new charger.
