The hydraulic crimper from Harbor Freight on sale for $53. I'm not a big fan of Harbor Freight tools but this works great and it is holding up well. I did all 2ga cables on my cart and my boat.
It is faster and has better repeatable quality than soldering IMO. There are proponents of soldering or crimping by respected electrical engineers and trade organizations. Suffice to say, both, IF done correctly will provide nearly equal results. Its your preference, but like I said, I think crimping is easier and faster with a good quality adhesive heat shrink tubing over it.

I would recommend very good heat shrink wrap if crimping only.
Our cars and trucks have a fan and wind blowing the acidic fumes away
while the carts sit and stew in the fumes.

Thanks all for the post. I change a lot of carts from 6 ga. to 4 and have just been using a hammer. That's not working out very well, when I use welding cable. Welding cable is a lot more flexible and have been braking where they are hammered . All of my carts are for golf, not off road. All this is about putting on cable ends.

I've made about a bazillion cables for our drag cart with the Harbor Freight hydraulic crimper. I also use welding cable. Works like a champ. Got it on sale and used a 25% coupon from their HF Facebook page so it was like $40 total. Well worth the money if you are going to make very many cables. I do use shrink tube on every connection.

I almost bought a crimper to do it myself, but the guy I've used for cables, parts & batteries made me a complete set of 2ga (including runs to motor) for less than I could source the materials myself!

Terry the Harbor Freight tool works 2, 4, and 6 ga with or without a jaw change ???I looked at it on their site,looks small ?? I have an old crimper from the old military days for aircraft work,the jaw rotates for the differant sizes,and the tool is probably 2 ft long.. I share it with my buddy who has a hot rod shop,and really it belongs to him,I need my own and talking to the tool guys they are showing me $250 to $350 crimpers?? The item ##66150 was what I looked at Freight..Thanx Dave
