blinking voltmeter among other things
So my neighbor and I just picked up and ezgo 36 volt electric cart. We saw another person rolling around in one and had to have one. Picked it up from craigslist this weekend. He told us it didnt work and probably needed batteries and or electrical work. After searching the web for a while I realized the batteries were probably too low for the charger to kick on so I started to charge them with my car battery charger, 3 hours later I was able to plug the cart charger in and it worked no problem.
4 batteries currently read at 6.2v and the other two are at 6.1. all of them read 41.1 I also just replaced the solenoid after not having any luck. The volt meter still flashes back in forth between the bottom 2 bars and the cart will still not move. Any ideas as to what a possible issue is or what else I can check? thanks |

Re: blinking voltmeter among other things
Connect the meter to the pack and tell us what the voltage reads & what it drops to when you TRY TO GO

All 6 batteries. Jack up the rear end, just in case it decides to move.

Re: blinking voltmeter among other things
ok, so after some more reading I figured the batteries weren't completely charged and I left the charger on overnight........the meter no longer blinks and I am fully charged......the cart still doesn't move though. I had installed a new solenoid last night in hopes that it would work but I'm not hearing anything coming from the solenoid (only click i hear comes from the f/r lever) and I am not getting any volts from the 2 smaller posts when I press the pedal....any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: blinking voltmeter among other things
Need to know what type drive system it is to troubleshoot it.
The attached guide will help you determine what type drive system your cart has. |

Look in the stickies on the top of the page for DCS trouble shooting. Mine was the reed switch in the charging port. Hopefully it's simple.

Quote:
Getting the solenoid to click is a two step process, first you get to get B+ (Positive Battery voltage) to ones of the small terminals (Coil). Then when the pedal microswitch closes, the controller applies B- (Negative Battery voltage) to the other small terminal. Connect you DVM's negative test lead to the battery pack's main negative terminal and the positive test lead to the solenoid's small terminal with several red wires on it. With Run/Tow switch in Run, F/R switch in F and Key ON, you should read B+. If not, measure the voltage on the smaller of the three wires coming out of the charger receptacle. If you have it there, move to the next switch in the series chain that leads to the small terminal on the solenoid with the Red wires on it. If you do get B+ on the small terminal with the Red wires on it, check the voltage on Pin-5 on top of controller. It should have B+ when pedal is pushed. If not, the pedal switch is probably bad. If so, check the voltage on Pin-7. It should drop from B+ before the pedal is pushed, to zero when the pedal is pushed. |
