Default 1990 EZGO Electric Cart-- wiring issue's at least

Hi, I recently bought this fixer-upper cart. Many problems, but I would like some help from the pro's on this wiring. I found some help here on some diagrams, thanks for whom posted those.. I realize some of the wiring isnt in great shape and colors arent correct on batteries, but I think its hooked up for the most part. I have one white wire, when I hook it to the positive, the back up alarm goes off... I have another heavy wire off the motor also. Any help would be appreciated.

Look at the last picture you posted, which shows the back of your F-N-R switch. There are wires and terminals that show the results of a lot of heat damage to them. These need to be addressed to keep it running well.

Here is a picture of the factory solution for a 1991 Marathon resister cart. Disregard the small wires (pink, black, green etc) as they are for lights, horn etc.
This is the correct battery position. They are connected in series. Positive to negative and so on. The box in the middle between the batteries is the resister coils. The short wire from the charging receptacle goes to the main + and the long wire goes to the main -. Start by making sure the batteries are set and oriented in the correct position. The chart is the wiring diagram. Take your time and follow one wire at a time. The diagram is electrically correct but not orientation correct for the individual parts. Some people (like me) can be intimidated by the wiring diagram but if you try I think you can do it.

Randy,

Welcome to BGW!

The responses posted by JohnnyB and Kernal are a good start for you.

Resistor carts ain't the sexiest, fastest, or fanciest buggys around, but they can be fixed and maintained with screwdrivers, wrenches, and a cheap volt-ohm-milliammeter.

They are also candidates for "Bugglies Gone Wild!", the bUGGLIEST golf carts in the world.

Post your results here, and someone will respond with pretty good advice.

Good luck!

It looks like you might have a mix of two carts? The rear axle that came with that cart would have had the motor stick out in between the batteries. A newer style rear end with the motor sideways has been installed and the coil resistors have been moved to the middle.

you may be right. I hooked it up and turned the key on and it took off on its own. Got it stopped and tried reverse,, got some smoke for that 2 seconds. Not allot, but still.. I've went over it 3 times, no relay click, no movement either.. I redid the bad wiring that was overheated.. Thanks for any and all input.. 1st cart.. ugh lol
