Default loss of speed and power up hills

01 ezgo pds- lift rear seat kit. bought 400 amp alltrax controller, had golf cart place install. Got it home and after reading info realized it should have the diode and pre charge resister, so i got those and installed them. Cart ran GREAT with stock motor. Decided i needed a amp guage. I got a lighted one off of ebay. hooked it up per instructions. Could not get the light to come on wireing to ignition switch. We had a party to go to in the cart that night. we got out on the road and the cart started jerking and everytime that it did..the light would flash in the guage. I unhooked the light wires from the ignition and we took off. We noticed right away the cart did not have the same power, going up hills it would slow way down. This was two months ago. The cart has never jerked again. I hooked the light up through the amp guage wires with a seperate switch. All that works fine. But i have really had a time with the loss of power. I have checked all of the stock wires, inch by inch, replaced the forward and reverse switch, its switch and micro switch. 4 guage wires, New set of batteries, new 8.4 hp motor and finally replaced the controller with the proper field map....no more power. Still slows way down going up hills. Only thing i can think of to do is replace the cables going to the motor as they are stock. I just got the new field map tonight, installed and went to try my new motor and was dissapointed. I have unhooked the amp guage and ran it, no change. I unhooked the voltage reducer for my lights and still no change. I have jumped the silinoid (or however you spell it) with no change in power. I really expected the new motor to be something else, but i have never gotten back to the way the cart was before the jerking. Any ideas? If somebody can figure this one out..my hats off!

Lol, No not Gov't employee. It took alot out of me to write all of that. After everything we have been through with the cart, the wife is ready to light a match next to it....The motor does have 4 guage wire to it now. I am thinking of putting 2 guage to see what happens.

What controller do you have? I know you said it's a Alltrax but which one? Do you know how to check the programing on it? Make sure you have it set right for the PDS.

I installed 2 guage cables last night from the battery pack, positive and negative to controller, solinoid and from there to the motor. All of the main cables are now 2 guage. I didnt have enough to replace the cables to each of the batteries. They are 4 guage. No change. The controller is the DCX400. When all of this started, that was the first thing I checked. And I have re-checked the programme several times and tried different ways. I talked to Richard at Alltrax and got the correct field map for my new motor, which was field map #45.

I am going to put the cart on jack stands hopefully today and go over the wires again. Maybe i missed something. With the motor repalced, controller replaced, batteries replaced, all the switches. I am going to load test the batteries again also.

To be honest, I dont need to be spending this kind of money on this cart... I seem to be obsessed with getting it to run right. I have to be close to the problem..

Thanks to everyone! This forum is Great. I will keep you'all posted.

I did mean Volt meter, sorry

I'm sure I'm missing something here; but don't all electric carts, especially lifted ones, slow somewhat on uphills?
