Default F/R Rocker switch

First post, been getting most my questions answered by searching/reading.

I've recently purchased a "mutt" its an 06 TXT (pds) with an ST hood. It has the HPEVS AC9 system with Curtis 1238-5601 48v (650a) Controller. Also has the IM 4 wheel drive system w/ 2 speed rear end.

I'm re-doing a fairly cobbled up dash panel with a custom panel and want to change the "variety" of switches to just all regular toggles with indicator lights for a more clean look. a buddy has a vinyl cutter and ill cut custom lettering.

Mainly I want to add LED indicator light for when in 4wd which is no problem...thats 12v (cart has a DC convertor on it) and I have this figured out.

But I'm thinking of changing the F/R switch (OEM rocker) to a regular toggle and have an indicator light for when in reverse (I just like lights, I guess) I've seen pictures with guys just using a standard toggle for F/R. So what type of toggle do I need to accomplish this?

Also thinking of adding 12v LED indcator lights to the GOLF/STREET and the regen brake ON/OFF mode switch, maybe make street mode have a light and regen brake "on" lit? These are full 48v to these. I think I can still use a 12v light if I use a DPST w/ 4 connectors toggle?? Or should I not mess with these switches. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

Thanks Much!!

Welcome to BGW! I think I would give some thought about borrowing power from the reverse buzzer. Of course, you would not have a matching toggle for it, but it is just too tempting to use that buzzer for power to indicate that it is in reverse. Just MHO.........

The F&R needs to be a SPDT switch. That's single pole / double throw. Center off or neutral.

CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

When you buy it, make sure it has a center off. SPDT might only have two positions. You need a three position switch, which ScottyB indicated, but a hardware store guy might sell you the wrong thing if you only specify SPDT.

Here's a pic of my dash. From left to right, it has a DPTT (three position) headlight switch. High, off and low (series and parallel), tail light, blue wig-wag "police" lights (prolly illegal), horn switches from a standard horn to a siren, and ammeter power. To the right of the ammeter is a rotary switch which has off, pack, and each of my eight battery voltages. to the right of that is a power port. I have a power to USB adapter, and a 1/8" stereo aux jack, so I can hook up a phone or iPod.

I bought a uniquely key three position switch. Off, on, on with accessory power (reducer).

Thanks all!!!

Sir Nuke, thats my kind of fridge!!!!!

Kelly Bell, yes was considering that but now thinking tapping into a constant 12v I have up there (I'm also wiring in a 12v DC outlet) I want to put a terminal strip in for the 12 volt to run all the indicator lights. So I'm going to use DPST switches for the regen brake and golf/street that need 48v I can run 12v for the lights off the other side ...correct?

I'm also going to run a separate toggle to "kill" the whole 12v term strip for night time "blackout" or stealth mode...May not want these lights always lit all the time. Kinda thinking of my wife and daughter when thinking of the ind. lights 4wd is the important one as that is not good if it gets left on for pavement driving.

Yurtle, that's what I'm talking bout...nice setup!! I now may be adding switches. I like the idea of the lights on a toggle and the USB ...great idea!

So on the F/R being SPDT ...thinking that wont work if I want a 12v indicator light for reverse? hoping I can get DPDT and run 12 v off the other side for the light, still a 3 position switch that would have 6 terminals on back? Am I thinking right?

thanks

I think you can make that work so long as the 2 sides are independent.

Just power the light from the buzzer. No need for DP switch. The light needs to be the same voltage as the buzzer, or a resister can be added.
