Default Worked on my exgo today but......

Well, I put in my hip restraints today to the beast, but I must admit, I didn't want to do it. I just wasn't in the mood. And I should have quit before I took a drill to my perfect yellow body, but I went ahead and did it. Looks OK. I think it sux that I have to put in hip restraints into my cart to be street legal, but its done! geez......

OK, I took one. I don't know whats wrong with me today. I have them installed, but I have to tighten them down. I'm not proud of the way they are bolted into fiberglass, but I used a star washer and a big flat washer to hold them in! Sorry I am such a bad mooded guy today, LOL.....

Note the big mess I made on the batteries and the body.......

Those hip restraints look exactly like seat belts.

Here's what most localities call hip restraints.

I don't have those, but I think in court, my seat belts will satisfy the "hip restraints" rule!

Nope. I have had conversations with the Georgia State Patrol headquarters concerning the interpretation of the street legal law.

Hip restraints are the triangular plastic peices on the side of the front seats and the metal side bars on the rear seat frame.

The hand grabs are the ones built into the top or if your top doesn't have them, you must add them to the strut frame for the top.

Seatbelts are not part of the law and were purposefully left out because of battery acid and gasoline being directly under the seat during a rollover. It was also given consideration that the struts for the top will not support a rollover.

So they decided seatbelts should not be part of the law. However, municipalities designing their own ordinance can add to the existing law. Most have added the amber light beacon for the roof.

Also, the law only gave minimum requirements for cities and municipalities to pass their own ordinance to allow golf carts in speed zones 35 mph and less. It did not, in itself, authorize anyone to driive on the street. In our city, we have opened up a dialogue with the city police and the mayor and they are allowing us to operate within the state guidelines without a local ordinance. But we are up to over 30 carts now from my count, and I can see some sort of more formal guidance coming to standardize requirements.
