2008 6-Seater
I may be able to acquire a 2008 6-seater which has been used by a golf course and for property sales tours since it was new.
The batteries (original) will have to be replaced. It has 8 6-volters. My question is does it make any difference what configuration I replace them with as long it ends up being 48-volts? 4 12-volters or 6 8-volters, & I know the six 8's is a better configuration. or, even the original 8 6-volters. We'd like to have the cart to go back and forth from our boat dock, but I don't want to get my hopes up. The golf course may use it as a trade-in to get a gas people mover/shuttle cart. They use it to run golfers back and forth from the driving range on event days, when they don't want carts leaving the shotgun staging area. My wife would like to have it so she doesn't have to wait for me to rebuild our '86 gas cart engine (another thread). We frequently have more people than it will haul anyway. It would be cool to have a 6-seater. http://www.clarksvilleonline.com/wp-...-shuttle-6.jpg |

Re: 2008 6-Seater
actually the best configuration is the original set up with 8-6v batteries. they will give you better/longer run time, as they have more AH's as a pack.

Yeah, agreed.
The question is will other configurations also work, as long as it adds up to 48 volts? FWIW, I looked at our other "utility" cart, a 4-seater with a cargo bed, and it also has eight 6-volters. So, if that is "best", it's curious that their golf carts have four 12-volters. |

Yes it will work with 12v and with the 8 volt , battery life will be shorter with 12v and less run time, that's why it came with 8 -6 volts for the longest run time

48V is 48V so anything that adds up to 48V will work, so the question becomes: How long will it work?
Here is a comparison of 48V packs using various voltage Trojan batteries. Best combination for run-time and battery lifespan is at the top, worst is at the bottom. |

Re: 2008 6-Seater
Thanks. Like I said, I am looking for adequate/do-able, not the "best", to weigh all the options.
The begin with, the usage will not be anything like a fleet cart gets at a golf course. In fact, the existing batteries may be sufficient for awhile. I serviced the 6-seater yesterday and there were several corroded terminals/connectors, so it may be in better shape than we think. But, our E Z go tech did his normal discharge test, and said their toast, as they should be at this point. The cart will be use for occasional trips of about a city block to our boat dock. Multiple trips on holiday weekends. Mostly just sitting with the charger plugged in, though. But only for about 6 months a year when we are at our northern lake house. In the winter we are at our Florida house. On our northern lake house boat dock I have a solar electric system. After studying deep cycle batteries, and inverters and panels and all that junk, I went with 2 12-volt deep cycle marine batteries for the solar system. Then, since I don't fish any more, I added the 2 12-volt deep cycle batteries from my trolling motor. I know, mismatched battery ages, but they seem to have co-existed. Before we go to Florida, November-ish, I add all my miscellaneous 12-volt batteries onto the solar system, and that has successfully kept them charged and healthy the last three years. If we get the 6-seater, I was thinking about buying 4 new premium deep cycle maintenance-free marine batteries for it, and put them on the solar system when we are not here. I have serviced batteries in golf course fleets for years, and know the problems associated with it, but have never thought about maintenance free batteries for my own use. I have been servicing (watering) the deep cycle marine batteries in our solar system. Of course, I gotta get the 6-seater first. |

Re: 2008 6-Seater
It turns out the owner of the course elected to keep the 6-seater, and install new batteries. When I get back for the season, shortly, I am likely to find that the batteries have not been replaced yet.
So, the decision will be the same, go with what it came with or go with 4, relatively inexpensive 12-volt batteries. The cart is not an every-day use, but we will use it more if the batteries get replaced. It is used to run golfers back and forth from the driving range on event days, tour the course by prospective members/property owners, and to go to the halfway house. It will depend on the budget amount and whether the GM budgeted this item. |

Re: 2008 6-Seater
I personally would go back with the 8 6 volts because that is what it came with. If the cart has lights they probably run off of 2 of those. If you go to 6 8 volts you will need to buy a voltage converter. More $$. You could put in 4 12s but you will have to build some sort of rack to hold them and if you buy golf cart 12 volts they are almost as much $$ as 2 6s with less run time..

Re: 2008 6-Seater
I'm back at work for the new season and nothing has been done about the batteries, or anything else that costs money, regardless of how badly we need it.

Re: 2008 6-Seater
You could easily go to 6: 8 volt batteries. I did that with my 6 seater and it's worked fine. I don't drive it for more than 10 miles at a time and recharge it after each ride.
No changes in the battery tray would be needed for it. |
