DPI charger and interstate batteries
I have a brand new Dpi charger on the way via scottyb, and I am picking up 6 interstate batteries today. GC8-XHD-UTL I am trying to figure out what charge mode to use. I have contacted interstate and Dpi.
so far this is what interstate says I don't think they understand what I am asking. what do you guys think? Thank you for contacting Interstate Batteries.* You should use the deep cycle charge mode for this battery on the lowest amps possible, usually*2 amps.* If you need to know if the battery is a "standard" or "gel" or "AGM", this battery is a "standard wet cell battery".** |

Re: DPI charger and interstate batteries
Interstate does publish charging recommendations for their Deep-Cycle batteries. http://www.batteries-faq.com/activek...p?questionid=1
(It is a bit hard to find. ) You have the "XHD" type, so bulk charge phase is 2.41VPC (Volts per Cell), Absorption phase is 2.55VPC and Float is 2.23VPC. The DPI Accusense charger's Bulk charge phase is constant current rather than a specific voltage, but the Absorption phase is constant voltage as follows: Mode-1 = 2.50VPC Mode-2 = 2.35VPC Mode-3 = 2.40VPC Mode-4 = 2.45VPC Take your pick. I'd go with Mode-1 and if water usage was high after they are broken in, I'd back off to Mode-4 or Mode-3. The nice thing about the DPI is that it uses change in voltage over change in time (dV/dT) to terminate the regular charge cycle and advance into the Float charge mode, so it is difficult to overcharge batteries with it. |

Re: DPI charger and interstate batteries
If i recall correctly, interstate uses a similar profile to US. So you would use the "180ah US" mode, or the closest to that you have. I dont feel the "225ah TRJ" mode would be bad if the US mode is not available, as it has a higher finish voltage than the "180ah TROJAN" mode.

Re: DPI charger and interstate batteries
thanks for the quick replys. mode 1 sounds like the way to go. DPI just got back to me here's what they say.
Please use Mode 3 for your Interstate batteries. Rick, |

Re: DPI charger and interstate batteries
Must be Ricks day to answer emails, I got one from him at DPI asking another question an hour or so ago. I am getting new batteries on Saturday and need to ask DPI what question do I need to ask the battery manufacture to determine what mode to use. I will probably just use mode 1 and just watch the water consumption. Unless they tell me otherwise.

Re: DPI charger and interstate batteries
Not to hijack, but what about Energizers? I know they are made by JCI, and the lady at JCI said it was POSSIBLY comparable to an Exide (which is specified in the DPI manual) but I haven't contacted DPI to see what they say about it. I will try that, but in the mean time if anyone knows the best setting for me, Ide appreciate it.

Re: DPI charger and interstate batteries
This does not apply to any clubcar with a functional (not disabled) OBC. This info only applies to DPI chargers, as they control ther charge rate and voltage cutoff. On a clubcar with stock-style charge system, the OBC handles these duties.
