No wonder it got hot and quit working. You got a 12 volt coil. You need a 36 volt coil. Who sold you that thing?

It was my wife's nephew. We paid 800 for the cart and had to replace the batteries which was another 650 dollars, not sure if it was a good deal but if we get it to run it will be worth it.

Well you are going to need to get a solenoid with a 36 volt coil to get it to run. You put a 12 volt coil solenoid which is probably the reason the solenoid got hot and failed. You need a regular solenoid designed for golf carts. I meant who sold you the 12 volt solenoid for a golf cart. Was the original one bad? Try putting the original solenoid back in cart wired like it should be and let us help you do some troubleshooting if it don't run.

It was probably my fault because I took the one off that my nephew had put on it. They never asked me a question on it on the other one. I will pick one up tomorrow and try. Thanks again.

Smile Re: 98 ez go solenoid problems

Got the new solenoid in today and everything is running good. I also looked at Carts Unlimited for breaking in the new batteries. Thanks to all for the help.
