Looks are deceiving.

Take plugin connectors apart, drench them with contact cleaner and plug in several times while damp.

Disassemble bolt on connections, hit contact surfaces with wire brush and contact cleaner. Reassemble.

Did you unplug and clean those connections or did it just go back to working on its own?

I checked connections but found nothing that looked bad so I don't know why it's working

Sometimes just unplugging and plugging back in that 4 pin connector is just enough. Mine did the same thing about a month ago.

I say again: Looks are deceiving.

There is a nearly invisible, non-conductive, corrosion that migrates between the contact surfaces of connections. Unplugging and replugging a connector will often scrape away enough of this corrosion for electrical contact to be reestablished, so the problem disappears until the corrosion grows between the contact surfaces again.

There are contact protective compounds available costing from hundreds of dollars an ounce down to less than $1 per cup. For golf cart applications, dielectric grease or Vaseline work pretty well on control wire connections.

The corrosion types that grow on battery terminals and other high current connections, are of both the visible and invisible varieties, and there are protectorates specially formulated for them, but Vaseline works also.

Bottom Line: Visual inspection is useful for spotting gross defects like broken or burnt wires, but just because something looks good, doesn't mean it is good. Learn to use a Voltmeter or Ammeter or Ohmmeter in addition to your eyes.

Since there are two circuits on this 4 wire plug, any one bad connection can keep it from running. If either of the MS wires are bad, the solenoid won't click. If either of the ITS wires are bad, the solenoid will click, but the controller won't know the position of the throttle, and will either act weird or not run at all, depending on whether you have a higher resistance connection, or none at all.
