Default forward/reverse

I want to take the normal forward/reverse knob off and use a toggle switch to mount on the dash. What do I need to do in order to complete this task? I have a 98 TXT with drive control.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

You need a reversing contactor kit and a PDS rocker switch and keyswitch plate for dash board mounting.... note the kit (link below) comes with a rocker switch in a Club Car Precedent style housing which mounts directly over the hole left by removing the F&R handle

Kit SW182 is all you need. Go here > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Reversing_Contactors.html

I might be reading more into this than meets the eye.

Doe You have a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover?
If so, you have a DCS cart, which is a different animal than the Series drive cart Scotty is speaking about (and easier to install a dash mount F/R switch)

Yes, I do have the switch on the controller box. Would I just need to get a rocker switch and add extensions to the wires?

You have a DCS drive cart. The F&R operates 2 micro switches. What you are asking can be done.

A PDS F/R switch (rocker switch) or a SPST/Center off toggle switch some wire and a Diode. (Mounting plate as needed)

Here is a schematic showing where to connect the wires electrically.
The diode feeds the solenoid coil while cart is in reverse, so it should be about 100V-3A.

If you use a PDS rocker switch, it would be a great time to install a DVM type battery meter.

Here is where I got mine: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Digita...ry_Meters.html

As I said you have 2 microswitches (ms), one for Forward and one for Reverse.
Each ms has an input and output wire... they are simple on/off switches. They have a common supply.
With your meter locate the common supply for the switches. This wire goes to the center of the PDS 3 terminal switch. The 2 out put wires (one from each switch) will connect to the top and bottom terminals of the PDS rocker switch. This should be all you need. Johnnie beat me to with pictures and diagrams - LOL

Thanks guys!!! I'm sure I'll be back on here for more advice. I just got this golf cart and it needed a good bit of work. I've got it stripped to the chassis, gonna have it sandblasted and powder coated, then put it all back together. I plan on putting a hide-away type head light on it, kind of how the cops use the spot lights on the car, and let the headlight roll out from under the body when I need it, and roll it back in during the day. Might not be worth the hassle, but i thought it was a neat idea.........

Not quite true, at least not for the later type DCS F/R switches.

The cam on the later style mechanically closes one switch in F and mechanically closes both switches in R, the same way the cam in series type F/R switches do.

The earlier style DCS F/R switch had a small central cam between the two switches and closed one or the other and used a diode to feed the solenoid (via the keyswitch) when in R. This is basically the setup that needs to be duplicated using a PDS rocker switch.

Attached are DCS schematics showing earlier and later F/R switches. Note the subtle change in name for the upper switch on the later version.
