Warn 24v RT30 to Beast48 Wiring Help Needed
Sorry for the double post but i couldn't figure out how to move/delete the other one. I just bought a Beast48 and would like to install a new winch. I emailed the company to ask what they recommend. They recommend the Warn 24v RT30 (which is discontinued). Can someone assist me with how to properly wire this baby up? I have searched the web and the forums and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Thanks!!

Re: Warn 24v RT30 to Beast48 Wiring Help Needed
Anyone? I now have the Warn 24 volt RT30 in my possession but don't know which three batteries to hook it up to or which battery posts to connect up to. Can anyone help? I'd love to get this installed tonight. Thanks!

I take it you have 8 volt batteries? If so, I'd connect the - to the pack - and the + to the + of the third battery (which is the same as - of the forth). If you rarely use this, it will probably be OK. If it were me, I'd move it every use to the next set of three batteries. A pain, but cheap insurance. That way, even if you use it monthly, the pack will more or less stay balanced. If you have access to an 8 volt charger, you can measure voltage of each battery after using it, and bring the three that power the winch up to match the others before charging the pack.

Be sure and use an inline fuse.

Thanks for the reply! What's "the pack". Sorry, this is my first electric & I'm GREEN! Why was a 24 volt which recommended if there could be a balance issue? I don't have room under the seat for a separate 12v battery that I could find. The winch won't get used much....I hope.

What voltage batteries do you have and how many are there? If you don't know the voltage, count the number of fill caps.
The pack is the battery pack, which includes all of the batteries, which are connected in series. The easiest way the determine pack positive and pack negative is to follow the two cables that connect to the charger port. Generally positive is a white cable and negative is black. |

As to the inline fuse, it may already have one. Generally it's on the positive wire. You can either buy an enclosed fuse holder, which would use a glass cartridge, or you can buy one that mounts anywhere you want. If you do that, it can be either a cartridge or blade fuse.

There are 6 batteries with 4 caps each. Here's a pic.

Re: Warn 24v RT30 to Beast48 Wiring Help Needed
Your pack - is lower left and pack + is lower right in the picture. You can run your pack + to a fuse then to the winch +. Winch - will be either one of the top battery posts that are tied together.
You can also move the winch + to the top batteries that are jumpered together, and move the winch - to pack -. You already have a LOT of wires and cables. I'd recommend using the old-school car battery style posts, and leave the existing wires and cables alone. |
