Question EZ Go Drops out

I have a Metal body EZ Go electric golf cart. I do not know the year or model. The Mgf Code on the plate is J1090 and the serial number is 608439. The batteries are only about 6 months old, all terminals are clean and tight, Batteries are filled as required and fully charged. The problem I am having is that when you get on and start to go, with the excellerator all the way to the floor it will move as normal, but will drop out just as if you switched it off. If you let the accellerator back up and wait a few seconds it will go again. It will move most of the time ok without dropping out if you only depress the accellerator pedal less than half way down. What should I check?

Thanks

There are stickies at the top of the forums with electrical diagrams. Based on your year model, I would start by printing off the electrical circuits and ensure all cabling and connections are solid. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks texas, I will do that. But I did forget to mention that I have owned this cart since 1996 and this is a new problem. The wiring has not been changed at all. The problem started last week.

Looking at the wiring diagram for that unit, Everything is wired correctly. What should I check now? Thanks in advance.

almost sounds like the pot box is going bad ( potenionmeter ) with the service manual you can diagnose it and even adjust it if it came out of adjustment...........have you tested and load tested the batteries to eliminate them? i know you said they are new but its possible to have gotten a bad one

I would suggest the pot box. All it is is a restate and it will go bad. Take the 2 small wires off the controller that go to the pot box.
POT BOX:

Get a meter that reads OHM'S and it should read 0-5000 OHM'S and it should be steady readings all the way from stop to WOT.

Thanks Andy, I will try that. Is it possible that the linkage is adjusted so that when it is put to the floor it is going too far?

Thanks

Yes the rod could be over traveling the box but most of the time it's the pot. Check it also if you think this is a problem. Most of them have a over travel on them though.
