Ok, so short of those who will say read the description from Alltrax, which I have, is there really a difference in the NPX and the AXE 400 amp controllers. There are a couple vendors out there selling the NPX4484 as capable of doing everything the same AXE model can, without the ability for end user programming. It seems odd that vendors would state something that opposes the manufacturer, however after posing that question to them they stated that they've used them with aftermarket motors with no problems. Obviously for warranty reasons, it wouldn't be wise....I get that. And the difference in price isn't really all that relevant, less than $30 ( I get dealer pricing, it's like $60 in retail terms) It's really a question of 1) my curiosity as to the real difference in the two and 2) the idiots I ordered mine from sent me the NPX instead of the AXE and looking at the case and schematics they look all but identical.

And if it matters, it's a 1998 EZGO series motor (no run/tow) 36volt. I have the 400amp solenoid, the HD F&R switch, the batteries are a week old, the wiring is 2 gauge and I have an AMD 7126 scheduled for delivery on Thursday.

Also, as I read and understand (though it's rather difficult to find an actual thread on the topic other than one that says call ScottyB) the conversion to 48 volt could simply be done by adding 12 more volts via two 6's with all that stuff installed, correct?

I went to Alltrax' website, and these are non-field programmable. I'm assuming you got a 4844 (not 4484 in the title). It will ONLY work at 48 volts. It's 400 amp. To upgrade a series, you'll need a solenoid capable of 48 volts and a 48 volt charger. At 400 amp you'll need to upgrade your FNR.

You'll be happy you went to 48 volts on a series, but if you paid for an AXE, this is not what you paid for. This is an economy controller. You can't change any setting. As to using with an aftermarket motor, ScottyB can tell you for sure, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

The main difference I can see is an AXE will run on 36, 42, and 48 volts. All the other settings aren't really necessary, though I like to play.

There is conflicting information out there. Reprogramming isn't really an option for the NCX and NPX controls once the resin is poured. The program hardware is the main difference in the controls. If you paid for AXE you should not accept NPX -



The NPX controls I sell are custom programmed at Alltrax. They will match the AXE performance, no other dealer I know of is doing this. It's not a control I would recommend for an upgrade motor.

Yurtle you are correct, I fat fingered the numbers and transposed them. It is a 4844.

Scotty thanks for the response. I guess I wasn't really clear on what happened. I called and talked to the parts dept and guess we got our wires crossed about the replacement motor and I told him I didn't need a programmable unit so he sent me the NPX unit. After mulling it over last night I called him back today and told him to just ship me the 500amp AXE and I'm sending the NPX back. I've never really messed with performance golf carts, but repaired stock ones many times over the years. My dad got into the business and asked me to to work for him so I decided I already knew enough to do basic repair, but in order to learn the performance side I decided to just modify mine as a learning tool. I tend to learn best by immersion and trial and error.

The motor showed up today a day early. Nice.

So now, it will be an AMD 7126 "Raptor" with an Alltrax AXE4855, 2 guage wires, 400amp solenoid and the beefy F&R switch. Now all I have to do is put it all in. Then round up two more 6volts and shoehorn them into the cart.
