Default 2006 TXT Slow

Hello. I have a 2006 TXT 36 volt that is slow and has little power going up hills. It has 3 year old Trojan batteries that measure 38.3 after charging. It has a curtis 6 pin controller p/n 25864g09. I did my best to follow the EZGO Diagnostic testing sticky at the top of the page.

Everything checks out with the readings as stated on the sticky until I get to the part where checking the controller output. When depressing the pedal, I only get 35.6 volts. When I pulled the orange wire at the reverse micro-switch, I have 37 volts with pedal not depressed and voltage goers to zero with pedal fully depressed.

So, if I am reading things correctly, the controller is not putting out full voltage and needs to be replaced? Just want to make sure I have diagnosed correctly before buying a replacement controller.

Thanks!

It could be the ITS needs adjustment. Mine was not quite reaching 100%. Adjustment can be found in the Service manual in the Sticky.

I can't find that. Can you give me a link?

Owner's, Parts, and Service Manuals:

Any manual with an ITS will work. In fact, many of the older manuals will still be good for newer buggies.

I checked the ITS spacing today. It is a little wider than spec calls for, but I just couldn't loosen that nut the is on the plunger. I did look and the plunger does just barely poke out of the ITS at pull pedal. I even tried pushing it further by hand, with no improvement. Guess I'll order a new controller and see if that does it.

Is 38.3 voltage after charging and sitting overnight an OK reading, or should it be more?

If the ITS plunger is at least flush or maybe a little farther with end of the ITS, you're probably close enough. 38.2 volts is fully charged. You may be getting all that the controller is capable of.

If you are considering replacement, I'd look at upgrades.

Thanks - will do. What should the voltage reading be with pedal fully depressed? I get 35.6 - is that all the stock curtis controller puts out, or should there be more output?

As to how far the pack voltage drops, there's no easy answer. Depends on how many amps are being drawn. Voltage drop depends on speed, hills, weight, tire size, age and condition of batteries, etc.

Update. I purchased and installed a 350 Amp controller. Still have same trouble. Where else can it be? I even tried new batteries with same result. I can't believe the motor would be bad. Maybe F/R switch???
