Default 10oz vs 25oz gear oil? limited slip?

Anybody want to comment on this?

Ezgo TXT Series Carts.

Ezgo limited slip differential instructions:

https://e-z-go-media.precis5.com/f51...fbee5667d077fc

- Add 2 ounces of friction modifier and 25 ounces of Mobilube HD 85W140 gear oil to the differential.

I've read a few other post's and some other sources say- 10oz is all you need?

Is this just stock differential (10oz) vs limited-slip (25oz)?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated,

Fill it till it runs out the fill hole. Also, the cart should be on level ground when you fill it.

I have an 2008 TXT. Drain bolt is on the bottom (screws in straight up), breather on the top opposite side of the motor. Seem's like that would be about 30+ ounces if I filled from the breather plug. Are you saying the fill hole is the drain bolt? I normally fill from the breather plug.

I fill above the threaded hole with the pan off and install it near full. IDK how many oz.s that is but, I always use an oz or 2 of STP oil treatment so it stays on the top gears.

It is good to see that EZGO came to their senses and started recommending Gear Oil be used in differentials instead of Motor Oil, but the amount does seem a bit much.

I'm not sure how many ounces it takes to get the oil level above the bottom of the axle housings, but if you do and your axle oils seals are worn, you'll have some mighty slippery brake drums.

I lift the rear tires of my TXT off the ground about a foot, so the differential is tilted, and then use a hand powered transfer pump to fill through the drain hole until oil starts leaking out of the drain hole. I didn't measure it, but I believe I have about 16 Oz of Lucas 85W140 Gear Oil in it.

They recommended gear oil because that rear differential has a factory limited slip installed.

When you say gear oil, are you speaking of gear oil for limited slip diffs?

ezgo recommends straight 30W engine oil for the rear differential. If your cart came with a limited slip option then they recommend 85W140 gear oil (with LSD additive).
