Newb-Advice please on where to buy cart?
Hi folks! I have been reading the forums a bit and have found it very helpful. Thank you.
I have a disability and think a golf cart would help me get around. I will be using this around home and when we go camping. So.. I am trying to figure out what to get. I think an electric cart would be best for my first one since it seems to be pretty simple to work on. I also would like to buy a basic cart as cheap as possible. I am looking for suggestions on what cart to buy and also places where I might find them for sale? Louisville, Ky area. Since we are heading into the winter, is this any better time to buy than any other time of the year? Also, can a cart be carried in the back of a full size pickup? Will they fit between the fender wells? Trying to figure out if I need a trailer too. I appreciate any thoughts and suggestions that you might have for me. thanx! Jeff |

Re: Newb-Advice please on where to buy cart?
Welcome to BGW, hondo
Buy a cart from one of the 3 major makers. Ezgo, Club Car, and Yamaha. Buy as new a cart as you can afford and hopefully the only work you will do on it will be modifications Goggle craigslist and select your local listings. Then search golf carts and see what is for sale for how much. Also see if you have any cart shops or dealerships in your area. Good Luck! |

Re: Newb-Advice please on where to buy cart?
Hondo,
I recently purchased my first cart, last Monday as a matter of fact. I choose the Brand I wanted, which was a E-Z-Go because I'm most familiar with it and the fact that we have a authorized dealer/repair shop here in my home town in case I need repairs. I travel a 200 mile radius with my job and I shopped for 3 or 4 days once I made up my mind I was buying and other than a couple of places that I thought was to high, nearly everyone was in the same price range. When shopping, don't just settle for a cart they have out front, the bigger guys will have 25 or 30 around back that they are holding until they move the others in front of the store and they'll build it up for you. I didn't want a bunch of "bling-bling" I choose a '05 PDS model that had the cleanest body and batteries that were in the best shape. These carts come off of golf courses, I ended up buying one that was off of a local "private" course that isn't hilly and has good cart paths every where. My thinking on this was a flat course wouldn't have taxed the batteries as much as a very hilly course would and the paths would hold down on the wear and tear the cart had been thru, also private courses usually have fewer rounds per year and from what I've seen the people respect the equipment a little bit better (A good friend of mine is the Pro at our local course). I had a 5" lift installed with 20" Bandland tires on black rims and also had a flip down back seat put on, they did it the next day and I picked it up that afternoon. I choose not to get new batteries ($500-$600 extra) to try my luck with the Batteries it had on it hoping to get a year or 2, not sure yet if this was the best move but I'm gonna try to get thru the winter with them just to see. When I first started looking I was kind of looking in the $1500 range hoping to get a "steal", I ended up spending twice that but I have a much better cart ( that I know where it has been) with no problems I know of and a warranty. Good Luck on your search, K |
