Default 1997 ezgo series with new batteries but no go

Im working on a 97 series cart the owner replaced the batterys but the cart wont move. It has 37v and change off the pack lights work but nothing else. No click from the solinoid nothing. With the key on the solinoid gets very hot to the tought ( could it be shorted?) the cart has been sitting for a few years

Try disconnecting one side of the solenoid small wires..... does the solenoid click when you remove or replace the wires? If yes ......

Only reason I can think of for the solenoid heating up is the coil is activated. It should have clicked when you disconnected the wire unless it is welded closed.

Remove the solenoid resistor. Test for continuity between the 2 large posts. The should be none when the solenoid is not activated (one side of small wires disconnected) If you have continuity across the large terminals without activation the solenoid contact has become welded or stuck. Replace the solenoid.

You would have better luck troubleshooting this if you measured voltage instead of continuity. Which solenoid terminals have voltage? Is the resistor getting hot too? With the resistor disconnected do you measure voltage on both big terminals?

is power getting to the solenoid Small red wire? is the reed switch hooked up or bypassed? that be my first and second question. sounds like you need a solenoid if it gets hot with the key on. all things wired correctly, correct?
