Default new to carts but an old guy with a question

New to carts but have had the UTVs (rhino) so there is a little difference. So far enjoying the 2010 lifted 48 volt EZGO and enjoy the somewhat quite ride. The somewhat quite is what has me typing to this forum for help in eliminating the noise that sometimes comes from the axle . Occasionally and more frequently I have a squeak that sounds like metal on metal. I have found a rubber snap in drain plug on the cover of the axle, cover is mounted on bottom of hub. Drained some oil and it appears to have water in it so I want to change it . This rear axle is a dana spicer and I cannot locate a fill or check plug. so the gist of this is how does one replace the oil and how much ?
I have looked and found different axle and differential videos but none for the assembly that I have. Also its the consensus that 30 weight oil is the one for the electrics. but I am 90% positive that the oil that I drained was a gear oil based on the smell and the burning on my hands. So if someone could advise or post a link, it sure would be appreciated here in Knoxville TN. Thanks Rob

Welcome to BGW!
In my '02 TXT, you have to take the diff cover off to drain the fluid. Also, there is differing opinions on what to use for fluid. I used 90 weight gear oil. IMHO, I don't think the diff goes around enuf to really matter. Good luck!

Hi Rob.....even if you look in the manuals, they show 30w AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE OIL. and believe it or not.....the way gear oil and engine oil is spec'ed, the term weight is a bit different. a 30w engine oil is about the exact same as a 75-90wt gear oil, which is why most of us here use a gear oil, and some of us even put in a little STP.......

as far as the drain/fill plugs. It pends.....most (mine included, '06') don't have a drain plug, you just have to carefully drop the pan. you should be able to find the amount in the manual.

OH and BTW......CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

ROB......I found a manual for a 2010 TXT and one of the RXV. and what it has for the Differential shows :Rear Axle Lubricant Mobilube 85W - 140, capacity of 25 oz. (page 16)

if you have a RXV this is the manual.

2010 E-Z-GO RXV-Electric MANUAL.pdf

if you have a REGULAR cart (DC) its this manual. I didn't find the amount yet, but on page 46 it shows 30 wt.

Sometimes intermittent axle noise is the outer rear bearing and other times it's the brake drum splines grinding away to nothing... Occasionally its a loose hub cap . I hope its the later.

thanks for all the replies and since this cart did not have a manual, Sir Nuke the links are greatly appreciated. and scotty b I hope this will fix it , but if not, I now know where to look and since I have the cover off and oil is draining, is there a way to check the bearing? and that is a nice fridge !
