Default 2002 TXT PDS Wont Move - Need PDS Motor Test

Trying to help out an disabled elderly neighbor, his cart (2002 TXT PDS) was dead and I recharged it. the cart still will not move. I found a broken speed sensor wire harness and replaced it. still no movement. this car has the FNR switch on the dash. I got the car into diag mode and was expecting to hear the beeps to help me ID a possible cause, all I get is 4 beeps and nothing more, according to what i read about the beeps, the four beep indicate that it is a freedom PDS controller? (can anyone confirm this) no other beeps.

so I am in need of bypassing the controller in case it is bad or fried and need to test the electric motor. Can any one provide me a test method to properly test this PDS motor?

I read the others threads, saw a test for a motor when it is attached to the axel, as many of you know the PDS motor is separate from the axel. so this motor is not good for the PDS motor.

If I can test the motor and make it spin then I know I need a PDS controller. I've ohmed out every wire and found no other breaks ..

parts I replaced with new parts for testing, FnR sw, solenoid, speed sendor cable, key switch.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Click on my name and then look at my posts and find my thread titled "Bought this beauty today". Read down and you will find that JohnnieB gave me an excellent diagram on how to test the motor. I used jumper cables to test mine and it worked fine. Good luck!

Cart motors do not have front bearings, so they have to be attached to the differential (transaxle) to test. Otherwise, severe armature damage can occur.
The difference between Series wound and Shunt wound (aka Sepex) motors is electric rather than mechanical, so testing them is the same mechanically, but slightly different electrically.

The electric difference is that the armature and stator windings are connected in series too test a Series motor and the are connected in parallel to test a Sepex motor.

Attached is the test set up for a Sepex motor like what is used in a PDS cart.

--------
As for troubleshooting the problem with the cart:
What is the battery pack voltage?
Does the solenoid click?

Good work Johnnie - I cleaned up the diagram a little.

Flatlander - I'm going through this exact same process now - for an elderly neighbor. I found my service manual online. It has a step by step test procedure for diagnostics. After you get the cart in test mode, you can do things to provoke a response. For example, in my case I got the 4 beeps immediately, but then when I put it in forward and pushed the pedal down, it gave me the 4-1 code.

Anyway, go to the PDS section and start working through the tests. On mine, it failed the B- to A1 voltage test and I found a broken brush. Replacements should be here later today and I'm hopeful that's all that is wrong with mine. Always test first and replace parts second - much cheaper that way.
