1999 TXT, DCS, no power please help!

Hey guys I realize this is my first post, but I read the forum daily. I was finishing up my cart wrap today, and I removed the rivets for the charger plug. I then unscrewed the three screws holding the plug casing together. Unfortunitally someone before me had the casing open and didn't replace the bottom nut on the negative cable. Lucky for me it sprung up and arch'd against the positive and now my cart doesn't run. Is there a fuse somewhere? It was a pretty good pop. What parts am I missing. The cart just seems dead. Thanks in advance.

If it has a fuse, it would be on one of the wires that runs from the charger port to the batteries. I don't have one, but it would probably look something like one of these, and would likely be attached to the battery terminal:

However, it wouldn't prevent the cart from running. Was the cart in run or tow?

There is a DCS diagnostic post in the stickies, but you may have fried the controller.

From what I've read about the DCS carts if you so much as raise the seat and look at it you need to switch to tow! You probably fried the controller. Maybe the DCS experts will be by soon.

What about the possibility of a burnt reed switch (fuse) inside the receptacle housing?

It "shouldn't" have affected anything beyond the charger wires running to the batteries, but surges do some really weird things.

With a series buggy, there's nowhere for the surge to go, but looking at a DCS wiring diagram, that isn't true. Looks to me like if you're in run, you have power going to controller red. If you are in reverse, you also have power going to controller green. If you are in forward or reverse AND key switch is on, you also have power to controller yellow. All of these have to pass through the reed switch.

There's a separate circuit that doesn't go through the reed switch. Again, in run, power goes to the controller red/yellow, and through the reverse beeper to controller green/black.

Pack negative is always connected to controller B-, so the possibility of any surge having a place to go is pretty good.

I hope it's the reed switch. Free fix for something that's likely to leave you stranded anyway.

WORKED!!!! Bypassed it!!! Thank you!!!! So the next questions: what does a REED SWITCH DO? Are they only an inline fuse? And why on ebay are they so expensive? Do I really need it or will a traditional inline fuse be an ok substitute? What happens if I don't replace it? Thanks for the initial advise!

There is a magnet in the charger plug that opens the reed switch when the charger is plugged into the cart, which disables the cart so you cannot drive away with the charger plugged into it.

The !@#$%&*(^%$#! reed switch failed so many times when the cart was out in the middle of nowhere that EZGO eliminated it in later years. My 2008 has a small fuse instead.

Permanently bypass the miserable thing and run the charger cord through the steering wheel if you can't remember to unplug it before driving the cart.
