Power Wise 28115 GO4 Charger long charge times.
I have a 99 36V TXT cart and use a Power Wise 28115 GO4 Charger. The problem that I have is the charger seems to never reach a fully charged state where it shuts down. I put the cart on charge at 1015 on 26 Jul, the amp meter read about 18 amps. This morning 26 Jul at 1100 it is still running and reading 6 amps. Is this normal, have seen other threads about these chargers not ever shutting down.
Thanks for any info you guys can provide. |

Unplug the charger and wait 12 hours, then measure each battery voltage. Report back with voltages and battery make, model (Trojan T-105), and year.

Re: Power Wise 28115 GO4 Charger long charge times.
Just took off charger at 2PM on 26 Jul (28hrs).
The batteries are 2012 AutoCraft GC-2's. Readings at this time: Bat 1: 6.84 Bat 2: 6.82 Bat 3: 6.84 Bat 4: 6.87 Bat 5: 6.85 Bat 6: 6.85 Total: 41.00 |

Those reading don't make sense. You should see 6.37 per battery.

Re: Power Wise 28115 GO4 Charger long charge times.
Re-Read the text in post #3 and check the time stamp on the post.
Those readings were taken within minutes of charger being unplugged. Quote:
On-Charge is self-explanatory. The On-Charge voltage has to climb into the 44V to 46V range to shut of your charger. Otherwise the back-up timer ought to shut it off in about 16 hours. Since it apparently ran for 28 hours (AM and PM not defined on all hours given), the charger has some issues. Since the On-Charge voltage did not reach the cutoff voltage, either the charger, or the batteries, or both have issues. I'm not sure how long the charger had been disconnected when you took the voltage readings, but the six batteries are fairly well balanced (within 0.05V of each other), so let them rest (neither charge nor discharge) until tomorrow morning and measure the At-Rest voltages. Have you checked the water level lately? |

Seems to me he charged it for 28 hours, it did not shut off but he took voltage readings without waiting 12 hours.
Check the water and re-check the voltage readings for us after 12 hours off the charger. |

Re: Power Wise 28115 GO4 Charger long charge times.
Ok, Here are the readings at 6:00 am this morning (16 hrs since removed charger):
Bat 1: 6.46 Bat 2: 6.43 Bat 3: 6.40 Bat 4: 6.52 Bat 5: 6.53 Bat 6: 6.48 Total: 38.83 I did not charge or discharge during this 16hr period. And water level was checked good three weeks ago. |

Re: Power Wise 28115 GO4 Charger long charge times.
The At-Rest voltage appears to be a bit high, but the pack had been on charge for 28 hours and we've never been told the make/model of the batteries, so it may closer to normal that it appears. However, the batteries are fully charged and all six are within 0.12V of each other, so the pack is fairly well balanced.
In your first post you stated: "The problem that I have is the charger seems to never reach a fully charged state where it shuts down." That leads me to believe the relay in the charger was bypassed by the previous owner. Does the transformer hum when you plug the charger into a wall outlet without plugging it into the cart? If so, the control board in the charger is probably bad and the relay on it has more than likely been bypassed. That would also explain why the back-up time didn't shut the charge off in 16 hours. |
