Recently snapped axle
Hey Guys,
I recently had an axle shaft snap at the bearing. I ordered some new axle shafts. Now the questions....... Is there anyway to get them hardened and what is involved in such? Would anyone happen to have a rebuild manual for an electric ezgo txt rear axle? What is the best way to remove the broken axle shaft? Thanks for all your help guys! |

Google Dana rear end for Ezgo Txt. You should be able to down load the manual. If I remember you will need to pull snap ring and the shaft should come out. You may need a slide hammer. Search terryh on here he did a great job with pics of a whole rear end overhaul, I used it as my guide along with the Dana manual.

Good point just thinking about a regular removal, I stand corrected, just trying to help.
That's the way to do it if the bolts are there, not so easy to do with nothing to grab on to, maybe weld something on the end of the axle, or drill the end of the axle and put a bolt in it to pull on, or open the rear and see if you can push the axle out from the in side |

Re: Recently snapped axle
you can drill and just put a self tapping bolt in the hole. Works for me.

Re: Recently snapped axle
To answer your other question, yes you could get them Re-Heat Treated,as they already are,but you probably dont have a grade to have them treated to,and the expense would be more than quite a few sets of axles. It was likely just a poorly treated axle,or damaged at some point and had a hairline fracture that finally gave up.Hope this helps.

Re: Recently snapped axle
Thanks guys, looking at it close up you can see where it was cracked already. We made away alright with no one hurt. As soon as my new shafts come in I might be asking a few more questions.

Re: Recently snapped axle
Hey guys, when checking the differential level on the rear axle I believe it has to be in an upright position (same as mounted) am I correct? I am unsure of the drain/fill holes on the electric rear axles. Could anyone help me through this?
