EZGO TXT Losing Power
I have a 2002 EZGO 36v TXT I picked up pretty cheap. It came with new Napa GC2 batts. With a full charge, the cart would run for about 10 minutes full load before dying down. After sitting for a few minutes, it would run again for 5 to 10 minutes before dying down again.
So, I called the guy who did the lift, wheels and tires and asked him about it. I took him at his word and replaced the solenoid and F&R switch... both to heavy duty. Also upgraded the wiring. Pulled out a 1.6v relay the previous owner had in for some cheesy LED lights, just to rule out all sources of the drain. I also drilled a few holes in the bottom of the speed controller cover to allow it to cool (another cart guy's advice). After getting all the wiring figured out and put back together, I left the cart to charge all day. Meanwhile, we wrapped the cart matte black and started installing the rear flip seat. This evening, I took it for a spin hoping for the best. I was excited when the tires screeched out of the shop. But no luck. I got 12 minutes out of it at full speed, non-stop before it came to a crawl and eventually stopped. I'm at a loss. Any ideas?? |

Re: EZGO TXT Losing Power
I let the cart sit for a few minutes (not charging) while I typed this post and then took it out again. It ran strong for about 2 minutes then slowed to a crawl.

Re: EZGO TXT Losing Power
It's a power supply (battery) problem. Attach your meter to the pack and post here what the standing voltage is after a full charge and 12 hours rest...
Then give us the reading for the whole pack under load when the cart starts bogging down. Since the batteries are new I suspect. 1. they are too small or 2. there is a bad one in the pack Do the same under load test for each individual battery and see if one or 2 drop way further down than the others? |

Re: EZGO TXT Losing Power
The standard 36V battery pack is made up with 225AH batteries. A NAPA 8144 battery is rated at 186 AH.
The stock tire height is 18" and the tires on your cart appear to be taller than 18", so they take more amps to turn. There may be additional problems, but the combination of a low Amp-Hour battery pack and tires that take more amps to turn won't have much run-time. |

PLUS - he could have a bad one? It's worth checking... and then if not. He knows it's time to take em back for the trade UP
