BFS battery filling system question
I recently acquired a 2006 EZGO TXT, 36 volt, which was equipped with a BFS battery filling system. I noticed that there are what appear to be indicators on the tops of the plugs. Most are white in color, but a few are red. I looked at the BFS web site but was unable to find any information to explain the indicators, so I assumed that the red indicators meant low fluid level in that cell. I finally got a hand pump to put water into the system, and after filling the batteries the red indicators were still red. Am I mistaken in my assumption or could the indicators be not working properly?

Re: BFS battery filling system question
Welcome to BGW!
Pull the caps with the red indicators and push the floats up manually to see if they are working properly. Wear rubber gloves, the liquid on the floats is sulfuric acid. The float assemblies can be seen in the first attached picture. What I use is in the second picture. |

Re: BFS battery filling system question
I check the water in my cart about once per month. I have found that it only needs water about twice per year which I usually add some in the spring then in the fall before I put it in storage in my garage for the winter. Here is my high tech filler. I had a filler like JohnnieB pictured but it had a tendency to over fill. The bulb is less than $2.

Re: BFS battery filling system question
Okay, this is embarrasing, but also funny:
JohnnieB: Thanks for the advice. I decided to tap on the caps to see if I could jar the float loose, and while looking at the red indicators I noticed that some were more red than others. There were only about five red indicators and they ranged from red to a dark pink color. Anyway, while I was messing with them I scratched one with my fingernail. Guess what, the red/pink color came off. Apparently someone had spilled something red on some of the caps. Just call me the village idiot. Rickochet and Swan: When I first looked at the watering system I was tempted to take it off and fill the batteries manually like y'all suggest. Only problem is the rear caps on the back three batteries are located under the body of the cart. Not sure how I would get to them, let alone see when they are full. Any suggestions? |

Re: BFS battery filling system question
Probably the battery terminal spray it's red . you still have to pop the caps and check the water levels every once in a while, it tells you that on the web site, so i don't think they are so great. My 2 cent, plus look close at the batteries in JohnnieB's pic

Re: BFS battery filling system question
Yep, trojan hydrolink does the same thing. With a battery fill system, when one battery goes, they all go. Anyone recognize this golf cart? (hint: it lists at $24k).

Re: BFS battery filling system question
I am a fan of the SPWS in carts. It's like everything else in this world, pay attention, read the instructions, get your head out of your *** and most likely you won't have a problem.Think back before TPMS. Because people never checked there tire pressure almost every car now has TPMS. Not a bad thing!! Next will be Back-up cameras and cars that stop themselves. I'm sure there are ten of thousands of SPWS in carts, forklifts, Scissor lifts that work without issue. Just my .02.
