PDS Slower after Alltrax Install
Hi Everyone,
New cart owner here, and already addicted. Been spending way too much time reading on this forum the last couple weeks! You guys are awesome. I'll apologize in advance for this long intro post ... Here's the cart ... I picked up a 36V '09 PDS with a 350A EZGO controller with freedom plug, stock motor, 2-speed rear end from Imaginitive, and "T-105 equivalent" batteries (local cart shop says they are made by trojan, sold as 'Worldwide' brand). Cart ran great and had no issues. Ran 20 mph by GPS on flat ground, but was obviously RPM limited by the controller. SO, I just had to mess with it. Picked up an 808B package from ScottyB - awesome customer service so far and fast shipping. Did the 'B' package because I'm having my local shop add 2 more batteries for 48V in a week or so. I got it all installed. Now the question ... I have a green light on the controller, and it runs (once I read on the forum to switch the F & R black and white wires). However, the cart got 5 mph slower instead of 5 mph faster! I'm baffled. I've read every forum search result I can find on this issue, and I don't find anything. I have the 250 ohm resistor in place correctly. I have the diode stripe on the side of the yellow solenoid small wire (the small blue on the other small nut) and the small red on the other side, on the large nut. I've looked at everyone's pictures of their solenoid/controller wiring and mine matches. The yellow wire is on the opposite side of the solenoid from the red. The cart has a very brief surge at the initial pedal depression (feels strong for a split second) then just seems to power down and go nice and slow like a stock cart (smooth acceleration overall). I thought maybe the controller was not set to factory settings (less than 100 percent current or speed), so I found a friend with a gigaware serial-usb cable and (after taking 2 hours to find drivers for it for Windows 8 ) made sure the settings were correct on the controller. Here's pics of wiring (had to un-mount solenoid to access serial port) Not sure what else it could be. I've made a couple trips up and down the street and nothing melted or got really hot, so I don't think I have any bad connections. They are all nice and tight with the large lugs on the bottom of the stacks. ScottyB thinks it might be weak batteries, but I don't know. It seemed fine before the change out and lasted about 8-10 miles. Ideas?? |

Re: PDS Slower after Alltrax Install
The only ways I can think of that it would not be going faster than stock control. Turbo is off = should be about 20mph tops.
Half power reverse is somehow activated all the time = turn this option off in program. Make sure output and speed are set to 100% (these are factory default settings. Make sure you save settings Close program Re-open to see new settings 'held' |

Re: PDS Slower after Alltrax Install
Turn the braking off or down 50-65 % is default...maybe that's holding you back?

Re: PDS Slower after Alltrax Install
Throttle settings can be off or ITS may be out of adjustment. The controller might not be seeing 100% throttle input.

With key ON, gear selector in neutral, on jackstands, press throttle pedal to max and look to see if led on controller turns ORANGE (indicating 100% throttle).

Re: PDS Slower after Alltrax Install
After reading the Alltrax site warnings, regarding cables and operating systems, It be appears a review the cables and drivers for compatibility might be a consideration. It looks, to me, as though there is a pretty wide region for error within the combinations available.

Re: PDS Slower after Alltrax Install
If his laptop is talking with the controller, all is fine. It's kinda a pass/fail, as far as what works and what doesn't.
I've never heard of it communicating the wrong info. A TON of industrial automations folks use this to talk to mission critical hardware. It either works, or doesn't. |
