Default best tires for off road rxv

just bought 09 rxv and love it. lots of power but want to get lift kit and tires that dig for hunting trails. the tires that are most common seem to be fat and not aggressive enough. Any thoughts please

Any kind of four wheeler tire will work. I have carlisle strikers on the back and swamp fox on the front. I'm running wide in rear and skinnier up front. Does fine for me.

I've had my cart for almost 6 years now and it came with very low end Duro's like these https://www.denniskirk.com/540714.sk...utm_medium=cse that are only 2-ply rated and the "new" tread depth is only 19/32 which in reality is just a hair over 1/2". They work ok until real mud comes into play.

I just ordered (and they will arrive tomorrow) for this hunting season a pair (for the rear posi-drive) of GBG Gators. http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/309 Now, my tire size is small at 22x11x10, but the tread depth of these are 7/8" (just under 1") and these are 6-ply rated, so they can take a bit more punishment.

Depending upon how you drive and where you go, look at ply rating and tread depth, plus if you drive on any paved roads, you need to consider the fact that the more aggressive the tread pattern, the more tire whine and wear you will have.

I plan on a 6" lift so I can go bigger I hope. Gators would be great, but I have to figure in how much I will be on pavement. I don't think much so noise won't be an issue. Does the rear body need cut out a little for extra weight in back? I plan on using it around the farm for work also. Nothing too heavy, but nonetheless I need it to haul. Thanks for the input, I am excited to build a beast, but it will be baby steps.

Mine's lifted only 4" and the tires clear just fine. But if your going to use your's for some work 'n such, your probably going to want to put on some heavy duty rear springs. Look around at springs as just adding one additional spring to the stock one's will help with loads, but there are some springs out there that actually make 'em with a different type of steel and they only use 3 leaf's yet still achieve a HD spring.

I hope this helps.

Just dont "stick" it in nasty mud, zero rpm torque is not a strong point on an rxv. Keep those wheels turning! I think they work really good in wash sand, if you consider its a stock powertrain. Keep those wheels turning! I have taken them into soupy sand in washes with street tires, just dont stop in the deep sand. Same with mud, keep those wheels turning. Think i have emphasized that enough?....

I'm not clear if your saying to keep "any tire" spinning, or a good "mud tire" spinning in order to keep from getting stuck. Because I can tell you from experience that spinning the low end Duro's in "real mud" won't get you anything but more caked mud on your cart.

Labatt50....Thanks for your endorsement of these tires!! I only bought a set for the rear "drive" axle as I wanted to see how well these functioned before I invest in the front. I'm still going to hold out and run it thru where I go, but your endorsement has given me some confidence that I made the right choice.

A very good tire at a reasonable price is the Carlisle AT 489.
