I have a 1992 Marathon Electric cart Ser. Number 685314 Manu. Number E07.92
Just replaced the F/R switch to heavy duty and at the same time I am upgrading
my power wires to #4. When I lifted the solenoid to +battery lead I found a small
terminal under the larger terminal checked the other large post terminal, same thing.
After some investigation I figured out this muse have been the resistor terminal.
God only knows how long it's been missing. So my question I guess is what are
the dangers of running without one, and what size should I use? My guess is these are all stock (OEM) parts.

Use 250-280 Ωs for 36v and 470Ωs for 48v operation

Resistor missing can shorten life of solenoid contacts. It pre charges the solenoid capacitors and prevents a sudden high current surge when you switch cart on and initially press the pedal. Upgrading to bigger wires will increase the surge current if resistor is missing so don't run it too much without one.

I'm sure you meant controller. Mind thinks one thing, but fingers type another. Happens to me all the time.

No I typed solenoid and meant solenoid but mind does make errors typing. Have you ever jumpered the solenoid contacts when the resistor was missing and observed the spot weld on the terminal? I am sure the surge may blow the controller too. Good solid low resistance jumpers will hasten the failure too without the resistor.

You are right. I did mean controller.
