use a voltage meter red lead to pos terminal of battery black lead to neg terminal of same battery..........you should get readings like 6 6 6.7 like that........if you have a fully charged 6 volt battery and it reads say 6.2 volts than you have a battery issue.......you want a good 6 volt battery to read at least 6.4 or better..........we all have our opionions on what the #,s should be fully charged but i think most of us agree that anything under 6.2 is an issue and than theres the load factor......you could have a battery read 6.5 volts but put it under load and it drops to 5.7 or so thats not good.......but with a voltage meter you do every battery one at a time as mentioned to get your voltage #,s....................post your voltage #,s we can tell you where your at.......................................

Inspect water levels first, fill them to cover the plates with distilled water. Charge cart and let it finish. Wait 1 hour, then use a digital multimeter to get readings on each battery. 6.37v is 100% charged, 6.05v is 50% charged. For the pack you want to see 38.20v for 100% charge, 36.31v is 50% charge.

The Trojan Battery website has some great info:

I want to first thank both of you who who replied to my question and both gave me very good information. I checked my batteries and three of them were 6.23,6.25.,6.22 and three were new above the 6.3 range. My cart was shuddering when I took off and ran very slow and is still doing the same with 6 batteries above the 6.3 range. It seems as though there is some other problem if I can tap your knowledge again I would appreciate it. Thanks T T

You are still dealing with batteries that are not 100% charged. If your charger is finishing it's cycle and you can't get those batteries to 6.37 or better it might be time for new ones. How old are these batts?

If the cart is shuddering, as you describe, i do believe it is a batterie issue. IMHO.

Check the specific gravity of the batteries in question with a good hydrometer. The specific gravity readings are more revealing for battery condition than voltage. It is likely that the batteries are creating your issue and this procedure will probably confirm that.

HIH. Good luck.
