Default RXV EZGO - Problem

Hi Everyone

I have an RXV EZGO which has been working great until I replaced all the batteries with brand new Trojan 1275 plus.

Now the cart drives for about 25 - 30 seconds then just slams to a stop. I turn the key to OFF then back on and it runs again for 25 - 30 seconds and slams to a stop again.

I had the motor brake replaced as I was told by everyone this is the problem. However, it has not resolved my issue.

Any further ideas? Anyone else every experienced this?

Thanks

There is more than one issue here

earlier didn't you state that brake got hot while driving and car jerked to stop?

That is classic brake failure.

SLAMS to stop is different problem.

This is often caused by bad battery or bad connection/cable.

Slamming to stop seems to cause brake failure(shattered disk)_

How are connections ? Are accessories (lights/radio) powered from 1 battery?

Check all batteries for low voltage (bad cell ect,)

I have seen this problem caused by bad battery (common) bad cable/connection(common)

bad/loose run plug under cup holder(rare)

bad brake switch or sending unit (very rare)

HI

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I did have the brake issue - I have replaced the motor brake.

Maybe it could be the batteries, it started happening immediately after the new batteries were installed.

May be a dumb question but are you getting 48+ volts at the main + and - ? Ie.. Are the batteries wired correctly?

I have seen many problems w/ Trojan 12v batteries.
EzGo is suing Trojan over the
Problems w their batteries.
We no longer use or recommend Trojan 12v.

See RXV brake problem III

I believe that is BGW thread
That describes battery problems.

Battery problem is often accompanied by rapid drops
In "gas" gauge.
Ie. from full to 3/4 or 1/2

Full diagnostics run on the cart today with the machine - NO FAULTS.

New "symptom" tho - if you leave the key in the "F" position - it is like the cart "heats" up and then the wheels are locked almost immediately, at best they move at 1 mph.

Remember I have already changed the motor brake.

Does the key in the ignition symbolize anything?

The guy looking at the cart is convinced its the actual MOTOR and wants $1800.........

Any thoughts?

Stuck solenoid ? Had a cart acting weird similar to what you describe and it was the solenoid not releasing. Activation circuit was doing what it was supposed to but when voltage didn't drop it just hung everything up. Smacked it with a screwdriver handle and it would run fine until it hung again..

Nope. Don't assume. One I had was clicking as well but the contacts were not releasing. Break out that voltmeter and check both sides of the solenoid when it "thinks" it is open. Mine had 48+- until I smacked it.
