New charger receptacle on old cart
Good morning my golf cart buddies....I have a charger plug hookup question.
I have taken the body and lift kit from a 2000 ezgo and put it on my 95 medalist ezgo. The receptacle on the 95 is a little 1" by 3" plug that is hooked to the solenoid and controller. The 2000 receptacle is the church door looking plug that is hooked to the pack negative and pack positive. So, how do I connect the 2000 plug to the 95 system. (solenoid/controller} or (battery positive/negative) or does it matter. The charger is a power wise if that matters. Thanks |

Re: New charger receptacle on old cart
Both charger receptacles have two big leads that go to the battery pack main (+) and (-).
The only difference may be that the newer receptacle as a read switch in it where the solenoid activation circuit gets its main (+) power from. You can use this power supply if the read switch is good and intact or you can bypass it and tap the battery pack main. Keep it simple. |

Yes sir, the cart is activated and runs great. So, I can connect the leads on the newer plug to the pack negative and positive rather than the solenoid/controller.

I don't know of any charger that connected to the solenoid and controller. |

I did the same thing with my 95 medalist, and yes mine was hooked up the same way, positive to the B+ side of the solenoid. I just switched the receptacle out and left everything just like was on the other end.

Re: New charger receptacle on old cart
Scotty, on this one 95 one lead goes to the controller B- and the other lead goes to the solenoid (battery side) which would be the same as hooking to the battery positive and negative. What Im not sure of is there a reason it goes to the controller instead of to the batteries. Wondering if the controller has anything to do with the charging on this cart.

I don't mean to keep butting in, but mine was exactly the same way. Not sure why, but when I added my new controller I moved everything to the battery terminals so there would be less clutter around the controller, and everything works fine. Either way should be ok.

Re: New charger receptacle on old cart
I was not aware that they did this from the factory, however were just talking about one end or the other of a battery cable. So essentially the two endpoints of the same. The only advantage I could see of one end or the other would be the proximity to the battery itself and potentially the corrosive nature of the Battery vapors.
The controller has absolutely nothing to do with the charging of this vehicle. I'm just trying to help you keep this as simple as possible. |

Re: New charger receptacle on old cart
Scotty, I had seen a few older carts in the past connected like that but just didn't pay that much attention to them. Really connected either way is the same. I was just not sure if the controller was sending some kind of message to the charger. I agree with you that it should not have anything to do with charging. Thanks
mgray70...Thanks for you input...that's the kind of information we need. someone that has tried something and it works.... Think I will connect mine to the battery positive and negative. If it don't work or something happens I will repost... Thanks all |

Re: New charger receptacle on old cart
Here is a schematic for a 94/95 Medalist that is wired that way.
