Re: PDS Speed 300amp vs 400amp
Amps = torque, NOT speed. With the alltrax 300 or 400, top speed will be the same (but should be ~5 mph faster than a "18mph speed limited" stock controller). When you do up the voltage to 48, you will get 33% more speed and torque than a 36v. All this info assumes you have a stock motor now, and keep the stock motor through the upgrade process (it will do fine on 48v).

Re: PDS Speed 300amp vs 400amp
But on a pds cart an aftermarket controller eliminates the rpm limiter therefore increasing speed.

Re: PDS Speed 300amp vs 400amp
I guess what I'm asking is does the 400 amp have that much more kick behind it than the 300 amp. And would the top speed be the same with the 300 and 400

Re: PDS Speed 300amp vs 400amp
A 300 amp controller is only a very slight improvement over the stock 275 amp controller. You won't even know the controller was changed in regard to any perceivable torque increase. Get at least a 400 amp or larger for best improvement.

Re: PDS Speed 300amp vs 400amp
The stock control is 275 amps. Do the math... 300 amps is basically a stock replacement which as mentioned will not monitor (or limit) motor rpm, thereby giving you increased top speed of about 24mph.
400a will increase torque by about 40% and give the same unbridled rpm. This is why most people go with pkg #808 = 400a Alltrax and 200a HD solenoid. |

Quote:
If the cart has stock height tires (18") and stock gears in the differential (12.44:1), the top speed at 36V will be about 24 MPH. When I went from 36V to 42V with a DCX400, my top speed went from 24 MPH to 28 MPH, so 48V ought to take it up to about 32 MPH, or at least over 30. The DCX400 will have about 1/3 more oomph off the starting line, but once the motor is spinning more than a few hundred RPM, it cannot draw all the amps the controller allows to be passed, so performance on level ground and mild hills at mid-range speeds and above will be roughly the same. Of course, on the really steep hills that bog the cart down to walking speed, the DCX400 will have better performance. More importantly, the DCX400 is more efficient and more robust then the DCX300, so if you are doing more than driving on groomed golf cart trails, go with the DCX400. |
