2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
I have a 2010 BBB XT. It will spin the front tires but little to nothing from the rear tires. If I put it in reverse on the same ice slope it turns all 4 tires over and powers right up it. So I pulled up to a snow pile and put my front tires on the pile. It would just spin the front tires. I backed off it and backed onto the same pile same spot and stopped. Hit the throttle and it spun all 4 tires and up and over the pile I went. So why would it work fine in reverse but not seem to be powering the rear wheels in forward? The controller lights stay green on both controllers all the time. I tried it with the seat off so I could see the controller lights.
Thanks Mike |

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
I believe they are Sevcon controllers but I am not certain. They are both blue if that helps at all.

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
If it makes any difference I swapped the controller connections and it did not make a difference. So I dont think it is a controller issue.

Since you tried swaping the controllers I would start testing your contactors. I don't know how the 2010s were wired it could be as simple as two sw202 contactors and a main contactor.

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
I checked voltage at both sides of the contactors and both have 54 volts at both sides. (it is a 48v system) They also have 54v at the small yellow wire and both have 5.4v out the back small wire. Not sure what is going on......can the F N R switch have anything to do with this?

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
Revolution thanks for the help......I tested the two solenoids they are on the drivers side under the seat. That is where I got the voltage readings I said on an earlier post. There is what appears to be a large black contactor under the seat on the passenger side. How can I test that?

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
The big problem we have here is lack of a wiring diagram. The lack of a correct wiring diagram is why I had to start from scratch on the BBB I bought used. I pulled out every single piece of wire on the cart. Some of the wires would be spliced to a different color wire half way through the harness. Some were spliced to three or four different colored wires.
You are are going to have to start at the batteries or the motor and work your way through every single component to find the problem. If you can post some pictures of your controllers and contactors I might have a better idea of whats going on. |

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
I will get some pictures. The batteries are two week old Trojan's. Can a motor run better in reverse than forward? I thought if it ran fine in reverse that kind of eliminates a motor issue. That is also my thoughts on swapping the controller connectors to eliminate a bad controller.

Re: 2010 Bad Boy Buggy Help
That's a good question about your motors. I don't know the answer to that (if they run fine in reverse, should they run fine in forward?)
I would test that theory.....but be careful here. When you have your cart up on jack stands DO NOT run it wide open. I know that if you do this on an EZ-GO it will cause the motor to "over-rev" and it will cook your motor in a heartbeat!! So, don't "floor it" and cook your motors!! So, I would: 1--Put the cart up on Jackstands. (All 4 wheels) 2--Put the multimeter on the motors power wire (S-1 or S-2...which ever one is correct) and when in forward, check the voltage that is going to the motor. In fact, if you are really ambitious, disconnect the wires to the motor and check the full throttle power to the motor. It should be the same in forward and reverse. If not, you now have a starting point to see why the motor is not getting the power. If the motor is getting full power in both forward and reverse, then put a call into D&D motors and ask 'em their opinion. Dave |
