Default Gem car battery trouble & DPI charger to the rescue

We picked up a Gem car. It needed batteries. It had a history of eating batteries which is not unusual for these carts. But this cart was used for a security company which ran 24-7 so we chalked the battery failure up to to much use and not enough charging.
We rehabbed the cart a year ago and put fresh batteries in it - they slowly deteriorated so we replaced them... these new batts started to deteriorate and I did some charge cycle monitoring.
The results showed peak charge voltage at 75.6v and each cell reaching 2.1v. We looked into replacing the Zivan onboard charger and decided to go with the ever popular DPI accusense. We ordered the charger with the common crowsfoot plug and installed the matching Club Car receptacle. Install required only a 2" hole saw and 2 short pieces of 10g wire. Charger polarity was clearly marked on the plug for us.
The results of the first charge are good. Because of the late hour I was not able to see the final voltage but last check saw pack voltage of 88.5v or 2.45v per cel which is approaching the 2.5v I anticipated. This am the charger is off and the pack is resting at 77v.
I believe we have solved our battery problem. DPI to the rescue.

That's great news Scotty!

I just had a guy with a GEM contact me this week, said his batteries "tested good" but it craps out on hills. Then he tells me his on board charger died and he's been charging with a standard 12v auto charger one battery at a time. He just insisted his batteries were good though. It's a shame, with a DPI and plug setup like yours I could fix his problem (after batteries of course) but he wouldn't drop the coin. You gotta pay to play.

I just purchased two DPI chargers from Scotty a 48 volt and a 72 volt. I am not sure how you get them shipped so fast Scotty but they got here quick!

I really like these chargers, built very well and they work exactly as advertised.

I bought the 72 volt for my Big Cart (formerly known as a bad boy buggy). Ive been making some videos with it for fun, link is in my sig line. Creek riding, one wheel wonder burn-outs, playing in flood waters.

I got the 48 volt for a 3 wheel ego that will be be built soon, I am going to use the one year old 48 volt pack from the big cart in the ezgo. I went ahead and got the DPI charger so I could leave them hooked up on the charger till the cart is ready. I have enough to do as it is and worrying about a pack sitting around needing attention is a worry I did not want.

I will most likely be ordering another 72 volt DPI for my club car, the cheap Chinese charger I have been using for a year or so has started dropping off the charge finishing voltage. Batteries were getting out of balance, I was worried they were going bad. I have been using the DPI for the Big Cart on the 72 volt Club Car and guess what I am getting better run time and the battery balance is back to acceptable range.

I am currently using the setting for trojan batteries, I have continental batteries and they say they are identical to trojan, I don't know for sure but they seem to like that setting just fine

In another post he admitted that the dog is the shipping supervisor. Makes perfect sense to me!
