Unhappy charges won't move

This 36v EZ-GO cart is old with a metal body, 80's I think but I can't find any numbers or tags to help me identify. Forward & reverse are by my right leg. It doesn't have coils like my 86 Club Car. It charges just fine but won't move at all. I heard (second hand) that it functioned in reverse only until recently. I'm new so the correct wiring diagram would be great. Also an explaination of what each component does. It sat uncovered outside quite a bit but most terminals are probably functional. Clean up is in progress. This cart is a rag.

Sounds like a controller cart since you stated no coils.
6 batteries in center or two sets of three on either side?
Metal or plastic body?
Review my first post about pictures!

Thank you for responding. Metal body. Being new here I don't know my way around very well. Pics are in the album section. Three batteries on each side.

Check out my last post on this thread. Has the pics you're looking for.

Sounds like you have a Marathon controller cart. So 88-93 vintage.

Okay, so I've got this thing cleaned up but still, nothing. If I ground my tester to the body I can get 18-24 volts at the F/R switch and at several other points- the controller, the coil & the microswitch. But no move at all.

did you try to jump the solenoid? (the 2 big posts)

Before doing that, raise the rear end of the cart. Also you might need to push the accel pedal a same time, it could be from a micro switch to pot box, to motor or controller also.
If jumping doesn't work you might want to check the motor using a series motor jumper and applying some voltage, dig on the forum for instructions on how to.

I doubt you have a bad controller but seeing the pictures it seems some water went within the controller? Anyway, if not the case that controller is hard piece of controller likely difficult to fry.
You need more than cleaning check the whole wiring to be right, dig also at forum for wiring.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I just reviewed your album photos. Where do I begin?

My advice: (if you have not done so already)

Very methodically remove, clean, and replace if necessary every electrical connection on your cart. Remove the batteries and clean the racks. Clean everything. It is imperative with an electric cart to maintain not only the battery connections but the control circuit connections as well.

Stray voltage to frame is not an uncommon occurrence on carts that have been neglected. Theoretically the system is isolated from the frame but voltage can stray under certain conditions. I'd bet if you clean every electrical connection that the stray voltage you are metering will disappear.

Clean it up and then we can get back to troubleshooting.

P.S. I hope gorno doesn't see your battery bay!!!
