Default Ruff and tuff?

So I though I found a good deal today. Was at a carpenters house today and sitting next to the barn was a good looking Ruff and tuff cart. I don't know anything about them. The gentlemen told me it had run well, just needed a little work done on it. But it did run well the last time he used it, but he hadn't been on it in about a year. What the heck! He offered it at a good price and I figured I could throw a few parts at it and use it around the house. Got home to research and it looks like I may have really messed up and made a bad snap decision! Not too many positive things on the internet!

Did I just throw away my money or will I be able to salvage this thing?
Oh...and sorry if this post is in the wrong section!

Needs battery's for sure! They are dead as can be and charger says they are full!

What does a volt meter say? If they were kept charged they might be fine and have some other problem. Hate to have you "guess" at a $600+ set of batteries only to find there is something else going on.

Thanks for the reply. 4 showing about 1.3 volts. The others are dead. I'm guessing voltage too low for charger to activate. It has 5 closed cell batteries and 1 regular battery. I'm not familiar with the closed cell batteries and their lifespan.

Agree with you on the battery purchase. Hate to drop that amount of money on batteries just to check to see if it runs! I don't think the gentleman kept in charged. And he had never replaced the batteries. Looking at the tags,I believe it to be a 2008 model with original batteries. Nervous that I just through away hard earned cash on a dud!

are they 8v or 6v batteries?? being that they are from 2008 chances are they are past their life span lol. If you want you can try to charge each battery until its enough to get the charger going, or if you have the ability, jump the battery pack with another cart's battery pack and when it's done charging you should load test each one. As for the charger, not sure what brand it is but it is definitely not working correctly if it says charged complete. The closed cell batteries are not really the proper type of batteries for a golf cart either

8 volt batteries. Chargerr is a HYX-48V25. That's all that's on the charger. It is a digital charger with digital readouts. This is my first (possibly last) electric cart I have. I have 2 CC gas. Just thought this would be a god chance to work on electric as I am getting more and more calls for service on them. Kind of a side business. Feom everything I've read, this unit is made in China. A knock off EZ Go. I parts, no manuals, nothing. Should have researched before I purchased! But I am going to try to charge each battery and see if charger kicks in.

Please keep sending ideas! I'm totally lost in this thing!

I hear you, that's the issue with chinese carts. Parts are hard to get and can be expensive . I always tell people who want their first cart to stick with the 3 main brands. don't give up on electric carts though, they really are not too bad

At work we really don't touch "knock off" carts for those reasons, can turn into a big headache

Don't get me wrong, they can be fixed and all that, but it's just not convenient. but yeah start with checking if the batteries can be somewhat restored
