Default Tayor Dunn 36-48v upgrade

I just got a Taylor Dunn Roadmaster in a horse trade with a friend and I am looking into the possibility of doing some modifications. Currently it has 3ea 12V DS/Marine batteries. Can I change this to 8ea 6V batteries for a 48v system without changing the controller? Or would it be better to add 3 more 12v batteries in series/parallel??
Ill post some pictures tomorrow. Its OD Green (Military) right now with US ARMY block letter tags and all.. Who knows of some larger 5 lug wheels I can get?

Welcome...
The 12v marine batteries will not work well or last long in a golf cart aplication. Only true golf cart batteries can take the routine. Good luck

OK, so 8 ea 6v batteries, or just go with 6 of them and stay 36v?

This is true. I eliminated all 3 of my 12v deep cycle marine batteries on my boat and replaced with 6, 6v CG batteries which are a true deep cycle. They have been on the boat since 2002 and still run strong.

What year, hurumph. Lets assume it is early to mid 80's. It is a controller cart, 400amp, but clearly states on the controller 24-36v. Here are a few pics of the unit. Im going to go hit the local golf course for a trade. They hae GAS powered Yamaha carts. Wish me luck... LOL
