Default 48 To 12 Voltage Reducer is HOTTTT!!!

Got everything working with a 12 volt rv battery and finally got a new voltage reducer yesterday. Just hooked it up to plus/negative of the 48 plus volt post of the EZgo electrical of my Mini T. Still got a snap when connecting the input side and tightened them down and checked the output side and with a voltmeter red pos/yellow neg it was putting out 12.6 volts so i thought i had it. Hooked up the red to the fuse box, no sparks. Touched the yellow neg to another battery ground and it was a BIGGG spark. Quit, cause that is what happened last time.. I checked the out put of the reducer and it is still putting out 12.6 volts. Where do i put the ground wire of the reducer as the directions say to a neg bat post. No grounding to the frame. Any help please. Larry

Larry, here is your problem right here in RED.. 48v pos and neg in= small spark okay. On the output side u do not go back to the batteries! U have now a 2 wire 12v system that will run your lights etc. do not onnect the 12v back to the 48v? It is an independent 2 wire system system. Everything that runs on 12v needs a 12v pos and neg wire to it > Hope this clears some of the confusion up?

Thanks Scotty. After the last fiasco i was afraid to try just going to ground but that is what it took. Now just find some place to mount the reducer, button up a few things and get it on the road or golf course as it is a dual purpose buggy. Thanks again all you gurus are great to have around. Larry
